What does everyone think of the ebow?
They seem fairly useful, but are they just another "throw-away-after-you-get-bored-toy? I'm thinking about picking one up and wanted to get the opinions from all of my pals in the forum.
I've seen the clips on Utube, but what does everyone here think of 'em?

It 's a pretty cool little toy. I played around with it for a while, then my brother wanted to try it so I sent it to him to try. I look forward to getting it back so I can play around with it more.

I've used them before. To me, it was a cool toy to play with. I loved it for a few hours, then figured I'd really rarely use it and haven't touched it in like 9 years.

Like the Moog Guitar...

Seems very cool. Sustains forever or dampens everything. Can get some moog-ish tones out of it. But really,

Most of the stuff those guys played all sounded the same, and how often would you really use that? For one song, maybe one entire album as a concept thing, but not all the time. It's a highly expensive toy that's extremely cool, but only ocassionally useful - at least to me

I bought one back in the early 90's. To me it's more of a novelty than a useful tool. The version I had (black body, red logo) was a little hard to control volume-wise. I could get some cool sounds out of my axe with it, like making whale noises, but in a band situation it didn't do too much for me. Also, I think sustainer pickups have kind of made the ebow obsolete.
