Fender must have missed the bus on this one. I went to the Experience Hendrix show at the Greek Theater in Los Angleles last night. The show featured some INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCES by such greats as Eric Johnson, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Brad Whitford, Jonny Lang, Eric Gales, Mato Nanji, Cesar Rosas, David Hidalgo and of course Buddy Guy, all Fender Players.
The Experience Hendrix Tour is sponsored, not by Fender Guitars, but Gibson Guitars. The Gibson Bus was there. The Gibson Headstock Logo was prominently displayed on both sides of the stage.
Funny though... Gibson wasn't well represented on stage at becasue all of the above guys played Fender Guitars. Only Robby Krieger and Doyle Bramhall played Gibsons.
I believe Fender missed an incredible opportunity to one-up Gibson.
If you haven't got tickets for the remaining Experience Hendrix show, get them soon.
Eric Johnson was like a brain surgeon in his technical approach to the Hendrix songs like "Waterfall" and "Love or Confusion".
Kenny Wayne Shepherd's tone and showmanship nailed "Voodoo Chile"!
The Popularity and Versatility of the Stratocaster Guitar Certainly Speaks for Itself, but this tour should have been sponsored by Fender.

It appears Fender continue to have a "complicated" relationship with the Hendrix Estate. If the Estate has anything to do with that tour (don't know if they do) then it is likely not Fender's fault that their name is not on the bill.

Must be very galling for Gibson to sponsor it and yet see all those Fenders actually being played on the stage, though...

Was it a good show?

Cheers - C

Yeah,
Gibson's got a good product. But they were certainly out gunned by all of the Fender Guitar Slingers. Seeing all the Strats and Teles in the hands of such accomplished musicians was nice.

Thats the only one up fender needed. You can just imagine gibsons public relations people fawning over Guy and Johnson trying to get em to switch sides.

I drove from Santa Maria to Los Angeles for that show simply because I knew it was going to be something special.
It was a killer show.
Eric Johnson, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Brad Whitford were great!
