Fender must have missed the bus on this one. I went to the Experience Hendrix show at the Greek Theater in Los Angleles last night. The show featured some INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCES by such greats as Eric Johnson, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Brad Whitford, Jonny Lang, Eric Gales, Mato Nanji, Cesar Rosas, David Hidalgo and of course Buddy Guy, all Fender Players.
The Experience Hendrix Tour is sponsored, not by Fender Guitars, but Gibson Guitars. The Gibson Bus was there. The Gibson Headstock Logo was prominently displayed on both sides of the stage.
Funny though... Gibson wasn't well represented on stage at becasue all of the above guys played Fender Guitars. Only Robby Krieger and Doyle Bramhall played Gibsons.
I believe Fender missed an incredible opportunity to one-up Gibson.
If you haven't got tickets for the remaining Experience Hendrix show, get them soon.
Eric Johnson was like a brain surgeon in his technical approach to the Hendrix songs like "Waterfall" and "Love or Confusion".
Kenny Wayne Shepherd's tone and showmanship nailed "Voodoo Chile"!
The Popularity and Versatility of the Stratocaster Guitar Certainly Speaks for Itself, but this tour should have been sponsored by Fender.

It was great.
Kenny Wayne Shepherd was phenomenal. Tone Monster!
Eric Johnson took on some real challenging Hendrix songs and showed why he's one of the best technical guitarists out there. He knew his parts inside and out and just nailed it.
I also appreciated Brad Whitford of Aerosmith.

Maybe this is one question we should kick back to Brad. Many of us missed the opportunity to see this as our earlier thread testifies to. It would have been to OUR advantage to have seen this posted in the Frontline. :(

What are you going to do?
Fender and Gibson have a right to sponsor any event they want. The Hendrix Estate most likely had something to do with it too.
Still, you can't help but notice the obvious.
Those guys had some real bitchen Stratocasters and Telecasters. Mostly the former, and P-Basses.
It was a pleasure to see the different tonal qualities from each player and the type of guitar they were using. You know, maple, rosewood, alder, swamp ash.
Kenny Wayne Shepherd's righteously rich tone is probably from his '64 Vibroberbs—he uses two.
Watching Eric Johnson work feedback and other sonic textures out of his Marshall stack and effects pedals... priceless.
Gibson's got to be pulling their hair out over the fact that all but two musicians played Fender guitars.
And it was all good.
