For Hanukkah if i get money, i am considering pickups. Out of these, and any other recommendations (but remember, not too pricey because i probably won't get over 60-70 bucks), which do you prefer?

Also, give reasons for your recommendations. I want an educated purchase.

What kind of Strat is it for? What's in it currently?
What's wrong with what's in it?

Why am I asking all of these questions?

It is for a cheap squier strat that has cheap stock pickups that are okay on clean/OD on the low notes, but sound kinda thin on the high notes. (FYI, i play bluesy rock and classic rock.)

Your are asking so many questions because you have to know, and it will be a world of hurt if you don't know ONE LITTLE THING about MY LIFE!!!! WWAAAAAAAAHHH---- :D

A Squier, huh? Okay, it's probably got ceramic pickups, no?

Try a full set of 3 GFS alnico polepieced single coil pickups in it. That would give you a good introduction to that old fashioned kind of pickup.

My suggestion is not to buy more expensive pickups until you move up in the Fender world.

But actually, a wah-wah is REQUIRED for a Hendrix fan. How are you playing Voodoo Child (Slight Return) without one?

Ceramic pickups are probably right. It's definitely cheaper than AlNiCO, which is why i guess they use it on squier and MiM standard strats. When pickup height is adjusted and the amp knobs are tweaked, then the guitar sounds okay, but just doesn't have that feel, like 'it's alive.' It responds to pick attack for sure, and plenty bright which is how i like, but fails to maintain brightness and fullness on overdrive. I don't want to go so high, maybe with vintage noiseless or ssl-1s, maybe an area '58. Just because i have a squier doesn't mean i suck (not to say that you meant that, though). I am pretty good, and i get that from people. I do not play simple power chords good sir! :)

Throw in a bit o' soul into it, and you've got a fine teenage guitar player!

Ceramics seem to have higher output (probably due to stronger magnets).

I've gotten plenty useable tones out of them by keeping them low (that is, far from strings) and adjusting the amp (gain & EQ) appropriately.

Check out the selection at GFS. A full set of three can be had at your price point! They have a wide selection of alnico sets. The 1960 look nice, for that classic vintage Strat sound.

Of course, if you are bold, you might try to get some parts from Stew-Mac and try to wind your own!

I like the Duncans for their consistency, tone and honest brute power.

I was considering getting some Tex Mex for my MIM Strats, but I read on the forum that they're just about the same as what's on the MIM standards now ...

No ... not at all, actually. The Tex Mex are Alnico Vs and are verrrrrrry different than than the ceramics on a MIM Standard. They provide lots of punch in the mids and high end. They have a very "Strat-y" tone. I got them in my MIM Standard. I think they are a tremendous pickups, and a bargain at that ... Just my opinion.
