Well, my wife and I recently decided that my guitars and amps no longer needed to be a part of the living room de'cor. I had reservations about moving everything into one room, especially a smaller 11 X 12 room. Everything looks great in there and that is all I have in this room. My problem is the way everything sounds now. The room has hard plaster walls, and like I said the room is not very big. I'm not sure I can put up with playing my gear in that room. The highs sound shrill, and the clarity of the tone is not nearly as good. Has anyone encountered a similar problem? How did you solve it?. I have considered some studio foam, but I dont know anything about it. How much does it take, will it damage the walls or leave a residue? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Have you tried experimenting with guitar and amp settings?
Are your amps open or closed back?

I have all my guitars, amps, and other guitar goodies in a small office kind of room. My wife kicked me out with my stuff, and told me that was my room to do what I wanted with it. It also has my computer office supplies, piano, and what not.

It sound different in the living room. I do some playing in that room, but for a change from time to time, I just take my guitar, an amp, and whatever accessories, into the living room and also play there. When I'm done I just take it back in the small room for storage. I keep most of my stuff in a little gig back, so......for playing, all I have to do is just take the bag into the living room, as well as a guitar and an amp. That system works well for me.

Hey Chet,
I appreciate the quick reply. I have been working on some different amp settings, but so far have not found the right combination. I'm getting closer with my Blues Jr., but I also have a Hot Rod Deluxe Tweed and I'm not having much luck dialing that one in. I also have a Vibro King Custom with a Vibro King 2 12 extension cab and I haven't even tried anything with it. I may have to take Syeklops advice and move it back into the living room to play that one, but that rig is not much fun to move. Those are all open back of course, and my only other amp is a closed back Marshall AVT50 Valvestate. Any suggestions?

Put your open back amps as close as possible to the wall. Where the amp sits changes the tone too.
