From what I've seen, I wouldn't call them a sell-out, at least not yet.

I hope they can make a few bucks off of Walmart.

Why is that anyone who seems to be fiscally successful is a "sell-out?" AC/DC's style hasn't really changed, has it? Everyone has a right to make a profit from their labors. Yeah, I know a lot of folks do it for fun, but if I were talented enough I would sure try to make money from something I love to do anyway. If you don't like 'em, by all means don't buy 'em. If you don't like their politics, don't buy 'em. If you don't like the way they look, don't buy 'em. but why is it always necessary to call 'em names because you would do it different?

They've entertained you for all these years, what harm does it do for them to get some more money from what they gave you?

I don't see them as being a sellout, but they are smart business people. What better way to get your brand out and have your music heard than to market it through Americas #1 retailer. There are other groups doing the same thing. I went to J.C. Penney the other day and I saw Led Zep t-shirts along with many others. With all the free music downloads going on these days it can be tough for even the great bands to make money on their music. Why penalize them when they are just adapting to the business climate.

Every artist that hopes to make money from their talent/creativity has to sell out to survive, so I see no problem.

I don't see them as selling out, I just see them as trying to cash in while they can, because face it, they are not getting younger, and you can only put out the same CD 30 times before people just don't really care too much anymore...

I think the fact that they haven't changed their sound is a big part of their ongoing success

Selling CD's dont make money now. Its all about the add on's.
In the past bands used to gig to promote a new album, now it's the reverse.

Any band in their right mind will use any method to produce income, and as much as possible.

Yes AC/DC are a band, there to produce music for as many as people as possible to enjoy, but having fans enjoy the music doesn't pay the bills.
There is no difference in selling pet food, deoderant or whatever to t shirts at a gig.

No it's not a sell out, its commercial sense.

They're just topping up the pension plans! And let's face it, none of 'em are spring chickens any more!

Nope. I've been wondering for a long time when Angus will put away the shorts and school-boy schtick.

If you want to play music only for yourself, then don't even record anything, don't ever sign a record deal and don't whine about not being popular or having money.

If you sign deals and records albums for SALE, then you do it to make money. Making more money selling other things isn't being anymore of a sellout than signing the deal in the first place. That's the whole point, to use your talent to get heard AND, most importantly, to make money so you don't have to keep a day job, so you can provide for your kids, and so you can buy the nice things you've always wanted. Questioning that is just ridiculous.

"So Angus, what do you think about a new line of ACDC kids shirts or pajamas? Might get a younger generation into your music, we could make some cool ones that you'd approve before we sell them, and it will probably make you another $3,000,000 over the next few years so YOUR kids can be a little more comfortable in life?"

"Hmm. I'm not sure. Maybe Joe Blow in Sphincter, Utah might call us sell-outs?? I would hate that. No, I'll pass on giving my family a better life so some strangers will stay happy with me."
