Heres a little brainteaser for those of you who collect older acoustic guitars.

Please might anybody be able to shed any light on this here guitar:

I'm noticing it baring striking similarity to the old Harmony Stella series (Montgomery Wards' Airline brand i think)

The closest i can find to it is this:

Harmony Stella H917 - Stella - 1940 - Acoustic flatop - Sunburst.
http://harmony.demont.net/guitars/H917/235.htm

It's a cheap old flat top, i know that much. No truss, no markings, rough grade wood on the neck, an action not short of an atrocity. The lacquer is cracked like crazy paving & it stinks of old. It's got that 50's, 60's to 70's look and smell to it. Not so sure it's as old as that, but I'd love to know what it is!

The neck size, the inlays & the headstock match the Stella exactly, and the design of the bridge, but theres no markings at all.

Any wild guesses people? lol! I'd love to stop calling it "The knackered one!" :lol: :wink: and call it it's real name!

Cheers,
Soph.

Hmm. The body shape, fingerboard, headstock and tuners look very much like a 1920s Selmer parlour guitar I own. But the tailpiece, bridge and sunburst finish don't.

Any traces of a missing sticker-type logo on the very top of that peghead?

Cheers - C

Thanks for your reply Ceri

Nope, all i have to go by is the later style, a very faint "made in Germany" engraving in the tail, and a treble clef on the white body pin. Will try & get pics, but it looks like;

It also has a white heel. I cannot find ANY markings, even signs of missing stickers at all on the body. I've even misted the surface with my breath & not even a faint outline, anywhere all over the body. :?

Ah, well. Not that one then.

Just out of curiosity, may I ask what you are stringing your guitar with, please?

Anyway, good luck on your search - I only identified my Selmer due to a chance posting by another member here...

It's strung with nylon currently Ceri. It's supposed to be steel strung but I took one look at the prospective action on it & my fingers wept at the thought of playing it, so I went and got some cheap nylons.

I've got further photos of the headstock, and bridge engraving/end pin engraving;

Wow, excellent quality photos. If anyone here knows then that'll do it, for sure.

Good luck! - C
