I think its a good overdrive pedal, and just because they are popular doesn't mean you will sound like everyone else. How many different musicians use Teles and Strats that don't sound alike? I hate to burst some peoples bubbles, but just because you get or have all the same pedals, guitars, and amps that your favorite player uses, you still may not sound anything at all like your favorite player, because whats in your head, hands, and heart has just as much, if not more, of an affect on your playing than gear does.

Anyways, back on point, I think the Tubescreamer is a very nice and verstatile OD with a number of different uses, sounds, and textures depending on how you tweak the knobs...

You hit the nail on the head brother!! 8)

I had one ages ago that went away to pay for a wedding to the ex wife. I wanted another but wasnt going to pay £100 odd. I got a digitech bad monkey. Decent cheap clone and you can dial out the mid honk.

+1000 here too. I like a Tube Screamer, but sometimes I'll pull out my old ProCo Rat, most of the time I don't use anything at all, I just crank the amp and control it from the guitar. I rely on the amps much more than doing the pedal dance. Of course, if I feel like playing some smutty raunch (you old timers know what I'm talking about), I just pull out my old MXR FX 52 Classic Fuzz.

You mean the DOD Classic Fuzz? One of my favorite fuzzes of all time!

Oops, I stand corrected! You're right, it's the DOD Classic Fuzz! I really like em, they're rude, crude, and socially unacceptable 8) . But obviously I haven't played it in a while, I need to drag it out and plug it in this weekend for a little retro sonic mayhem, maybe in conjunction with a wah-wah.

I played a TS-9 in a guitar store & the overdrive was great. However, I didn't buy it because the lack of true bypass ruined the amp tone when I bypassed it. Maybe later I will get a Maxon or a Robert Keeley modded Tube-Screamer.

Analogman now sells a TS-9 or TS-9/808 that are true bypass ! Check out his web site, it used to not be a true bypass. Keeley is a great TS for sure!

The BBE Green Screamer is also based off the Tubescreamer and offers true-bypass as well.

I do know that Analogman uses the original Japan Radio Corp. chips in his stuff! Not the chips you get in your normal TS from GC or others, that's why the pricing! 8)

I have a Keeley TS-9 Mod Plus pedal and it's sweeeeeet!! IMO a great improvement over the stock TS-9 reissue. It also goes well with my boss ds-2 too.

I use mine everyday. I prefer the tone of the old ones though. The new ones come very close but they can't completely nail the originals.
