Alright boys and girls, let's get your opinions on these 3 similar "non-Fender" guitars. How do they compare to each other?

The first two are Korean built. Is the Dean as well/ For quality, fit and finish I would go with the PRS.

PRS... excellent quality from Korea. It could be the best import to get in that price range. The SE Custom has a set neck- not all of the SE models do.

None of the above. I can still find a used but clean mid '90's Hamer USA made (Hamer is now owned by Fender, BTW) solid Honduran Mahogany bodied Special, with P-90's, on a certain auction site for well under a grand. I've got one, and I'm not selling it.

PRS SE singlecut TREM... absolutely! Even if you don't use the trem much, at least you get a PRS with an adjustable bridge. WHY they make hardtails with no way of setting the intonation for YOUR personal choice of string gauge is a total mystery, but what is even stranger is that they list both versions of all their guitars (with trem option) for about the same price. You'd expect the extra cost of a tremolo unit would be about the same as the after-market 2-in1 adjustable bridge-anchor that is available to replace the UN-adjustable solid-cast stoptail bridge-anchor it comes with.

BTW: I once owned a Hamer (circa: 1980, double cut-away LP style) and out on the road, 6 nights a week, it didn't last a year. I had owned a Gibson LP Deluxe for 8 years just prior to it (put through the paces under the same conditions) that incurred very little wear. The difference in price was small yet the difference in quality was amazing. I hope the new owner-managers of Hamer do better by their customers than the founders, but no matter, I'll never buy another Hamer again, new or used. I still cringe at the memory of my axe practically disintegrating in my hands. Total crap. The next guitar I got back then? White Fender Strat: First version, Contemporary model with an all-METAL clamp nut...... BAD idea. They changed to one with plastic clamp seats so that it wasn't cutting strings anymore, but as we all know, it was discontinued, as there are far better locking systems available, including locking tuners! Just my 2 cents.

Bad Hamer? Bummer, dude. I'm keeping and happily playing mine (I have six). In 1992, I once bought a brand new Gibson USA (I mention that in case there is any doubt) LP Standard via mail order, that had a binding flaw, a finish chip under the tailpiece, and epoxy that was falling out under the 21st fret--because the fret had dug in too deep, and they'd patched it! It went back to the dealer VERY quickly! I never had THAT problem with a Hamer! And I'm not getting a new Gibson to find out. Or a PRS, either, not with the way THIS economy is going.
