the missus cooks beef in a slow cooker with a load of onions for 9-10 hours. The meat and onions make their own gravy. I defy any carnivore to prefer bbq or ketchup after tasting that. On burgers though i have chilli sauce.

Ooooh, good call. A-1 is great on bar burgers too, and even fries. Now I have to go get one, and an ice cold beer.

Is that the recipe that calls for like 5 or 6 pounds of onions?

That is killer good!!!!!!!

You will never know how ecstatic i am to hear that they have 'chips n gravy' in california. All you need now is meat pies covered in mushy peas and body temperature flat brown beer.

Chet, i dont know the recipe my missus uses but it does use about 8 huge onions chopped into big pieces and a few whole schallotts and various herbs. I dont attempt to guess what herbs she uses, its a real witches cauldron of concotion. I've put on 4 stone in the last 7 years :D

I am probably the only Californian that likes that. When ever I eat it people look at me like I lost my mind. I don't remember where I was when I started eating it, but I did spend 2 years in Germany in the early 70's.
The meat pies sounds to much like pot pies, which I can't stand.
When I was in Germany I drank many a warm beer.

That sounds like the recipe I'm talking about. Very rich and tasty!!!!
I may have to make that again this winter.
