I think it's a good question and a tricky dilemma.

Threads sometimes get locked but I've seldom noticed a thread actually removed from a forum. If I saw it right an exception was when someone posted simply saying, "look at my Ebay auction," with a link. I believe that one abruptly disappeared, after a couple of members had posted objecting to it.

On the other hand, people sometimes post drawing attention to a third party's Ebay auction that they've noticed for some reason, and nobody minds that.

The mere fact that you mention you have items for sale makes me curious to go and have a look - though I'm thousands of miles away and won't be bidding. Is your Ebay username the same as the one you use here...?

Ultimately, I think we are all clear that this is not a market place. I suppose the most you can do is to mention you have stuff on auction, and leave it to others to find it if they can.

Be interested to see what others have to say...

Cheers - C

even though I'm a newbie, i am a member on several forums and am a moderator and one of the largest forums on the internet.
A rule that seems to be in place is that as long as the member contributes to the forum other than advertising his items and also as long as the items he does promote are being hosted by ebay, then there isn't usually a problem.
Maybe if there was a rule that you can only link your items after you have a certain post-count, so to make sure its not somebody joining for the soul purpose of getting his auctions known.

Posting items that you have for sale/auction on other sites is really no different than posting them for sale here -- i.e., that extra level of indirection doesn't really matter, it's still a "for sale" post. As such, unfortunately, that too is not allowed here.
