I was searching the internet on thursday and I found this!

http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/squier-/71269

These were just under £400 when they came out (they were only around in 2006)

This is the last chicken in the shop (black only)! I remember reading a singing review of these in Guitar Buyer.

My wife (and wallet) won't let me have it! Id thought I'd let you guys know - just in case you reckon it could be collectable in a few years!

I missed my chance to buy a new one. T read great reviews in the mags, but the online reviews said there were lots of quality problems so I stayed away.

Every once in a while I get on my soapbox and call for a reissue Espirit. The original model was discontinued about the time Fender's management bought the company from CBS. The Squier version had the aforementioned problems, but some of the prices I see on eBay approach the original sell price. Curious.

I seem to remember that moving the Esprit into the Squier range was an attempt to revive interest after those very QC problems hurt sales, is that right?

I've always liked this particular take on that generic body shape: especially pleasing lines. The headstock outline is a little more iffy to my taste, but of course it keeps the string runs almost straight. They used to do it in a very nice sunburst, but the black is cool too.

I always find chocolates and shoes help this kind of marital situation wonderfully, Ian. Though that would kind of double the cost of the guit.

Still an unmissable bargain at the price - do it! A little redundancy pressie to yourself.

On a side note, I once test drove a Lotus Esprit. Nought to sixty in 3.5 in first gear - oh, mammy!

Cheers - C

If you look on harmony Central a lot of people say 'it arrived with a horrible set up, but after some fetling it's very nice' type stuff.

The worst review I saw said something was rattling in one of the chambers - now that would be annoying! but the people that love them LOVE them!

I think they're really cool. Not very 'cowboy' though!

Apparently, the problems were serious enough to kill sales which doomed the model.

Fender didn't make a semi-hollow guitar at the time to compete with it as far as I know.

I saw an original '80s-era Esprit in a local guitar shop in Ft. Lauderdale a couple of years ago. It was a bright yellow and it could have been mine . . . if only I had $4,000.

Gak is huge.

It's a shop in brighton thats just grown and grown.

E.mail them - I asked if they really had an Esprit - and they said yes, and dropped that price to 250.

They're a bit snooty in the shop - but I've bought things (pedals) on line from them, and will again (I've had a bad experience buying on line elswhere - but GAK seem pretty big)

Click the Email icon and grill them with various questions! see what you get....

They say the Esprit is new......

I have the cousin of the Esprit, the M80. That Squier Master series are wonderful guitars. The only thing that doomed them was the mindset of the public that Squier guitars are cheap entry level guitars. Considering that not one, but two, Fender Custom Shop Master Builders were involved in the series should tell you something.

The Squier Esprit was a Guitar Player magazine editor's pick.
Here is the review of the series.

I believe the guitar supplied to GP was one of the models they had on hand at the NAMM. I don't want to say it was hand-picked  but subsequent magazine reviews and certainly reviews from players were much less kind. Don't get me wrong, Squier or not, I wanted the guitar to succeed.

I picked up a Squier version not to long ago. So far I have no complaints. The first thing I did was give it a good set-up. Just like any guitar, a good set-up made it come to life.

As for build quality, it is an exceptionally well built guitar.

Great! I hope you enjoy it. I've been looking for a sunburst model but prices are moving higher than the original $399 sell price . . . and I just got laid off so no more additions to the heard for a while.
