Come on lets be honest. The MIMs and Squiers get purchased because they cost less. I'm sure everyone who owns an MIM or Squier could have found an American made Fender that played and sounded just as good and probably better.

In the name of saving a buck most consumers have sold out. I completely understand if someone can't afford to buy American. Just don't try to dress it up and claim it's all about the quality of the MIM's et al.

Get off your high horse, not everyone can afford the MIA guitars. When an MIA bass cost over $1000, the MIM equivalent is $479 or higher, the Squiers are even less, with some better quality than the MIM. It's about bang for the buck. Fender's here to make money, while at the same time grabbing the less fortunate that can't afford your mighty expensive MIA. Get over it, in this global consumerism, yes, more people will buy the off shore equipment. If it feels good, sounds good, and you like it and can afford it, buy it. Just because it's not MIA if I try it out and like it, all of a sudden I won't like it anyomre. Get real.

Sorry I got hung up on that. My uncle had a Harmony guitar when I was in 7th grade (ca '85), it was a sunburst, strat copy, and he always said it was horrible, he bought it to learn to play guitar. He has a few $1000 guitars now, some Jackson made in Japan, some Ibanez, and a Taylor acoustic also about a grand. Like someone mentioned before, you can go online and ck them out. Not sure about quality tho.

Wow a lot of passion there sparky :o I was only stating an opinion, and in a fairly resonable manner too. I agree with and support your right to a different opinion than mine, that's one of the great things about this country. I also realize that not everyone has the money to buy an MIA guitar (though I haven't paid more than $650 for any of mine so the $1000 price tag you quoted . . . . ? Yeah I wait for sales.

Just a thought now . . . . for the price of all 3 of your offshores you could have purchased at least one MIA. Or maybe if you'd used the money you had to spend upgrading pickups and bridges you could have had the MIA and not needed to get better parts.
I guess it's really all about quantity over quality huh?

Actually, it's a matter of preference without malice. That's what we are about herein. We need not to forget that.

I'll put up my MIJ against any MIA of it's vintage, hence why I've sold the other MIAs I've had. The only MIA worth the money I paid was my Stu Hamm. Well I sold that too to cover some bills. Those 2 Squiers, no a chance will I get an MIA for both of them combined, they were both no money out of my pocket. The VM, I just gotten some bonus money, yeah, nothing out of pocket, we don't usually get bonuses, the 5 string, well, some change I've collected for a few years and cashed in. So either way, MIA if I had the money, sure. $1000 I quoted, I'm a bass player, so the MIA basses new are in that range, except for the HWY 1 series.

As far as money to upgrade parts, what makes you think I wouldn't do that with an MIA Fender?

Ok hear's my harmony guitar story, sad but true, I sold my first guitar that my parents bought for me a 62 red gibson SG to buy a harmony that looked like a strat, because it had a whammy bar as the SG didn't

yes mthorn00 it hurts now, hind sight is 20/20, but at that time in my young life I didn't know squat from apple butter, years latter after I realized what I had done and had a better guitar (ES335) I smashed the hell out of that harmony in to very small bits & pieces.
