My school like many has a monthly club thing and i chose to be in the guitar club now the first meeting was today and I HATED IT!!!!!!!!! Everyone was trying to play everyone else under the table one student even had the odacity to challenge the teacher to a guitar battle (the kid lost in the 2nd round after the teacher cut out on "voodoo Childe") so next month me a bassit and another guitarist are gonna have the teacher have a opening lick and we take it from there and make it a group jam. Also at the schools talent show in May the guitar club is supposed to play a 4 song set but i dont know how that will happen with all these stuck up kids in the club.

Look on the bright side, at least they were actually playing guitars. Someone probably showed up and was disappointed it was real guitars and not Guitar Hero

I am a guitar club sponsor at a high school (34 members right now) and this is a common problem. Luckily I have 3 smaller rooms off of my main room so I was able to break up the students into different groups. I have a room for beginners where one of the officers of the club volunteers to teach them chords. Later on this room will be used for other lessons that the officers choose to teach. Another room is set aside for acoustic guitar players because they are always getting drowned out. The 3rd room right now is used for a group of students that are actually playing the same thing and trying to form a band. The main room is total chaos, but the students find a way to make it work. This is the main place where the guiatrists try to show each other up :)

I tried the Jam session thing last year where everyone plays a blues rhythm and different people solo around the circle. It did not work for me. Unfortunately some people have absolutely no rhythm and that really jacks things up. I hope this works for you though. Having fewer players should make it easier.

Nice! Yeah - what he said! Back in OUR day, we didn't have "guitar clubs". And if we did, we wouldn't have be able to drag out 20lb ancient guitar through 7 ft of snow, and walk 6 miles to school. So quit your ballin'!

Seriously though - attitudes suck. The biggest attitudes are from the ones that are the most insecure and feel the most threatened by others. They "need" to prove they're better or they're flake out and short circuit. Being in bands isn't much different. You'll find those same guys in your bands later, which of course, you'll try to avoid like the plague.

At least kids like you play guitar these days. Most kids listen to "rap" and are "homeys". By the way, what the hell does "homey" mean?

I was thinking about forming a guitar club at school next year, but now that you've mentioned this...issue, I don't think I've taken it into consideration any more. There are too many show-offs as it is, they're especially with the "experienced musicians" that want to join and play with the praise band at my youth group. Think of it this way- one guy on acoustic, one on electric, both are playing off-key to the song, and both are playing in different keys while picking wrong notes.

You just can't ever seem to win. :(

Uggghh. There were three little turds at GC last week or so. All dressed the same. All attached at the shoulder, walked around close like siamese triplets or something. Losers. MAJOR attitudes like they were so great or something, and THEY SUCKED - OMG! It's perfectly FINE to not be great, and to play badly at a music store, if that's your skill level and you're really looking for something or testing something out. Without a doubt. But, you can't have attitude like your God Almighty when you suck like that. Terrible.

They kept playing some horribly way-too-fast for their playing level crap and acted like it was handed down to them by the music gods or something.

They tried to make some young kid feel "inferior" and the kid felt bad. I had to go up casually and say something like "You know, that really sounds like crap. You guys should think about taking some lessons or something. Is this what you're trying to play?" They were appauled and walked out like "WELL! We're never coming in THIS place again. You'll be sorry that we're leaving now!". Losers.

The kid laughed a bit, and him and I jammed for a few. I told him to NEVER be like those idiots, and he agreed.

My friend, this is why you go to music stores close to closing time. :D

But I know what you mean. Especially when one of these little turds is one of the members of the praise band that I mentioned. Just gotta bear your teeth into your lip and take it, even when you feel like seriously lashing out on someone. :?

I just got a laugh out of this part here.

Yeah, I agree. And I'm usually pretty laid back. Sometimes though, you just gotta tell it like it is.
