The 2008 Experience Hendrix Tour follows on the heels of successful mini tours in 2004 and 2007; this time featuring an expanded natiownide tour schedule and artist line-up the features the likes Mitch Mitchell, Billy Cox, Buddy Guy, Hubert Sumlin (Howlin' Wolf), Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Eric Johnson, Brad Whitford (Aerosmith), Doyle Bramhall II, Eric Gales, Mato Nanji (Indigenous), Chris Layton (Double Trouble) and special guests at selected locations including Cesar Rojas and David Hidalgo (Los Lobos), Bernard Allison, Robby Krieger (The Doors) and many more.

I found out today that, sadly, The Experience Hendrix Tour is hitting my city (Denver) next week on Thursday, Ocotber 30th. Unless I want to let my son and his whole Cub Scout Den down, I probably will not be able to make it due to prior commitments.

However, I thought I would post the website and info here in case anyone else wanted to catch it in a city near them.

Yes, this tour is sponsored by Gibson, oddly enough (Fender - why are you not sponsoring this kind of thing?). Please excuse the indirect Gibson plugs from this link.

Cheers!

I would go! I now that you are letting the Cubs down but concerts like this come VERY rarely! It is a chance of a lifetime!

I agree. My wife said the same thing to me. I'm giving it some thought and I'll talk to my son.

The only ones with the right to be on that stage. The first 2 because they played with hendrix the latter 2 because they were his heroes.

Sounds like the hendrix estate are trying to drum up money again. I wouldnt let the kids down for it, its just not worth it.

You can catch cover bands anywhere anytime playing hendrix stuff.

Thanks, but I wasn't really looking for advice on weather or not I should go... I will figure that out for myself. I just really wanted to offer the information up to anyone else who may be interested.

However, I am going to have to disagree with you here. I thinks it's pretty far off-base to compair this tour with a cover band - I would hardly consider Mitch Mitchell and Billy Cox a cover. And sure, you can't have Jimi actually playing guitar - so why not bring in people like Buddy and Hubert to pay a tribute? And as for everyone else on the bill not being worthy to participate - we all play Hendrix to some degree, my friend.

I agree that the Hendrix estate has probably done some questionalble things to bring in money using Jimi's name, but this sort of concert - particularly for younger guys like me who never got to see the Experience or Band of Gypsys play -just sounds like a good show to see.

My $.02

To bad they are not going to Canada. I would have enjoyed seeing it. It looks like there is a DVD available, so I might pick that up as an alternative.

"Flying-V" vs Stratocaster: chances are either Fender wasn't interest or wouldn't give them the deal Gibson did.( By the way, Jimi also played a black LP early in his career, which is on display in Seattle along with his Dano. )

Just so you don't feel bad, they played NYC last night and the night before. On what planet do they advertise this kind of thing. This is my first hearing of it. Given this forum, someone should have known.

Thanks Doc! I am certainly aware that Jimi played Gibsons now and again - and that's great. I just think that he so iconically related to the Strat - I donno' - no need to fret about it I suppose (no pun intended). :D

I agree with the advertising (or lack thereof). If I would have heard about it a few weeks earlier...

You're right abuot the advertisement. I see they played in Philly last night. I'm just north of Philly, and this is the first I'm hearing about it! Also if you go into that web site and look at the pics in the gallery, with the exception of Eric Gales, they're all playing "FENDERS"!!! :D

Not trying to be cruel or anything, but it's not the kids decision.

That's what I meant about the advertisement. They played in R.I. last Friday night! (Oct. 17, 2008) :?

I never did update on this thread. I apologize, but don't really have any news because I did, in fact, miss the show in Denver. I kept my commitments to my sons because, well, I'm that kinda' Dad. :) And we had a rockin' two-day Halloween celebration.

Hopefully this tour will come through Denver next year. I think I'll write and email about better promotions...

Cheers!
