best ever live show i saw was birmingham symphony orchestra at cannon hill park 1996 performing lots of popular classical pieces conducted by simon rattle (top class conductor). The orchestra was on a island in the lake with all these fireworks going off behind em to the fantasia music. Very magical experience. The only thing that comes close was springsteen 1985 tunnel of love tour. 4 hours 15 minutes no support band it was a gruelling endurance test worthy of japanese tv after 3 hours

Far as guitar music goes, utterly obvious but it has to be The Who in the '70s. I was about six feet in front of Pete doing that leap across the stage to a sliding stop on his knees at the end of Won't Get Fooled Again. You can't beat that: no need for light shows and FX. Knockout sound quality, too.

In a different musical realm (since Niki set that ball rolling), sitting right in front of the bandstand with the Buddy Rich Big Band playing flat out was pretty much like standing on the tracks with an express train screaming towards you. 'Bout as exciting as it gets - I saw them seven or eight times! Actual musical genius at work...

Cheers - C

Dick Dale. There were no laser beams. No big smoke machines going, it was his band, and his guitar. The thing that puts him on top of my list is that after the show he had time for every single fan. Leo Fender was right he is a "Showman". (btw that is how the amp got its name)

peter frampton may not have been the "greatest" act out there, but it's one of the most enjoyable.

I just saw the Red/Papa Roach/Seether/Staind concert here in town, it was wonderful! Seether would of have been the best if their instruments hadn't been emitting feedback the entire time. Otherwise, I'd have to say that Papa Roach really took the stage, Shaddix's enthusiasm and energy really made them stand out. I really think it'd be cool to see Papa Roach again. :D

Me too. I was not a fan of theirs ... too rappy for my taste. Then I saw them last June. Holy Moly they were good !!!! I am a huge fan now. Get the Paramour sessions if you don't already have it, dude ... not rappy at all.

I saw Zappa circa 1972 and that particular night he must have been in a musical mood. He was light on the weird and strong on playing and appeared to be having a good time. Overall, he lived up to the trite "... but he's also a great guitarist" that night.
