See, it just didn't occur to me that a thread started by Ian Sheridan would get all grown up and serious. But this one has. Now I feel so foolish.

So. To redeem myself here's a nice page about doing drop fill repairs. Ignore the adverts, obviously...:

I particularly like that strip sanding technique; it works well.

Nice link! I'm very grateful I was looking for ages for that kind of thing.

It's good to know that I'm traveling down the right road!

Thanks Ceri.

Good post Ian !! :)

Welcome.

Gotta say, I wouldn't bother with the buffing pads or the compound. After the wet-and-dry paper I'd just move straight on to T-Cut. Which it sounds like you have ready. On the negative side, I'd leave the polyurethane a week or more to harden, regardless of what it says on the tin.

Good luck - C

I gigged at thirsk (where all creatures great and small was filmed) a few times. The cows didnt appear to be distrusting, infact they ignored us like good cows everywhere do. We did however meet this merry gent

The pirate of Thisk, a rum fellow indeed. He goes around dressed in pirate clothes all the time with his replica musket and pirate sword.
It wouldnt be so bad but Thirsk is landlocked.

Carry on...

Need really looooong gloves for that maneuver....unless you're some kinda weird hero :P :P

Doc

Doc, I'm quite relieved to hear that you've obviously never seen the old '70s English veterinary soap opera All Creatures Great And Small.

In it, that manoeuvre was frequently performed on screen for real and without the aid of gloves. Many startled cows on those sets...

inanity abounds eh :P

I always thought all creatures great and small was a book long before it was adapted for TV. I wonder how they conveyed the true gruesomeness of james harriets bovine exploits in books.

I so bored at work I'm going flipping mental!

And I'm felling a bit bummed because my Telecaster headstock repair isn't going very well.

Polyurethane varnish takes so long to dry properly!
I could do with some kind of PU that sets with a hardener...I don't think such a thing exists?

Maybe I should have used Super glue, or nail clear varnish...
I'm guessing these sand up alright, but I need to be able to buff it to a shine with T Cut.

It looks like Polyurethane and patience is the answer...... :(

yeah i usually go flipping mental cuz of boredom in skool. wow. i hate skool. all my classes pretty much suck.
