Yeah... where the hell did it go? If you click on the "international" link at the top of the page, Japan is not listed as one of the countries you can choose from. Also, if you search for it on Google, there are no official webpage results. I know it existed because I went to it several times in the past, and now I'm really stumped as to what happened. Did Fender Japan go out of business officially or something? The strange thing is that now my Guitar Center has been stocking CIJ's for quite some time now; does that mean that the Japanese factories are only exporting to the states now?

Anyway, the reason why I'm so pissed is because the Fender Japan site had those artist pages and I wanted help finding out what guitar this one person uses. Maybe someone here can help instead.

Yuu Nakashima from GO!GO!7188 uses a red sparkle telecaster with what seems to be a Bigsby tailpiece, three pickups and a special star-fret inlay. I'm pretty sure that this could have been some sort of signature series guitar for her, because I've seen Youtube videos of other people using what seemed to be the same guitar. Here's a picture for reference:

Thanks for any help!

Perhaps it was as full of inaccuracies as the Chinese site. Who can forget that debacle?

Maybe they finally made the name change to 'Squier' instead of clinging to Fender Japan.

It's still around. How are your Japanese language skills?

http://www.fenderjapan.co.jp/

I just click randomly. I found those Jazzmasters with the block inlays. Sweet!

Ah-ha! Forum member Orvilleowner gave me a very handy tip on that: he pointed out that if you scroll over hyperlinks on the pages the destination page comes up in English on the bar at the bottom of the browser, so you can get some idea of where you are going.

Neat, eh?

Somewhere on this Forum there is always someone who knows!

BTW: far from Fender Japan only exporting to America (see post above), it is quite the opposite. Presumably under orders from Headquarters, Fender Japan is now very much discouraged from exporting at all. With certain exceptions, such as some of the Jazzmaster Reissues and such like, Fender Japan is meant only to produce for their domestic market.

A couple of months ago we had a run of enquiries on the Strat Forum about where to buy MIJs, especially from folks in Europe. I gave out that Japanese Fenders were still widely available in Britain and certain other European countries - which they had been, last time I went shopping for one.

But it has all changed. Now the only way to get MIJs is via certain private importers who literally get on planes and go to Japan to buy up a sea container full of guitars and ship them home for sale. It is perfectly legal, but is what they call "grey market".

I know, because I spent a significant part of the last few weeks tracking it all down. My new Fiesta Red 57 Reissue MIJ Strat should even at this moment be approaching the Suez Canal, safe inside a sea container full of guitars on its way to me! Pics to follow, as and when...

Cheers - C

I've seen the CIJ/MIJ guitars being sold on eBay, but the shipping costs were just too high for my wallet.

In any case, I have enough gear for now (can't believe I said that) and I have recently joined the ranks of the unemployed (can't believe it happened). No more GAS for me . . . for a while anyway.

Oh, I did come across this site actually but the frontpage graphic made it look out to be a fansite or something. Strange... I'm pretty sure they had a more "official" looking page before.
