I was a little sad to see an old guitar shop close down in Dublin city recently.
However, it has been replaced by an out of town superstore which I believe is the first of its kind in Ireland.
They also have the biggest selection of Fender guitars. :D

On visiting it recently I purchased a cheap Takamine acoustic, which appealed to me staright away and is the nicest acoustic I have ever played :D

Yes, the independent shops are having a hard time competing with the chains that get the best discount from the manufacturer because their volume is higher. I was just in Dublin recently and I don't think I saw a music store anywhere.

Name and website, please, Paulie.

I'm in Dublin sometimes and would like to visit. Anywhere near Dalkey?

Which brings another thought to mind. This wouldn't be yet another Bono enterprise, would it?

Cheers - C

The last time I traveled to Ireland I went into a shop on Capel St I dont remember the name of it but it was not far from I think Capel and Strand where Capel crosses a bridge. They had some nice Guitars in that place.

Its about 10 miles from Dalkey.
It is not a Bono enterprise.

The store is called x music, I dont think it is part of a chain though.

OK, thanks, Paulie. One to look at next time I'm over. From Dalkey I'd hop on the M50 and drive north - would that be the best way?

Though I'm looking at the prices: 999 Euros for an Am Standard Strat. More like 777 Euros (equivalent) in London right now. Maybe I'll come looking for Avalon Guitars instead...

Cheers - C

That was a very nice shop in one of my favorite places I have been Ireland. My Fathers side of the Family have been in America since the 1720's My Mothers Grandmother came here from Ireland in 1885 and her Grandfather from Ireland in 1870 there is still some Family there in Ireland distant Cousins.

Takamine's are nice. When I went acoustic shopping, my order of preference after playing was Martin, Taylor, and then Takamine. I could actually afford the Takamine and love it.
