Well...I've been a fan and have looked up to him for many years because of his abilities even though I've heard many bad things about his attitude and such and now I know why. For one he's about 80% show and 20% playing which I guess is fine, but I sure expected a lot more out of him than I saw. Very sloppy playing when he actually decided to play rather than kick picks into the audience and act like Jimmy Hendrix pawing at his guitar and just making noise. Using a pick on a nylon string classical? My old professor would have strung him up by the balls if he would have seen that and it sounded horrible to boot! He throws his guitars at his tech every 2 or 3 minutes because they always go out of tune (hey now there's a great argument for FLOYD ROSES' I would have to say  ), then he gets mad at him if he gets in the way while trying to put more picks on the mic stand, ect. Then Tim (who's a local dude to me) is singing like a champ and has one foot on the center monitor so Yngwie decides that he wants to be there so while Tim is singing Yngwie nails him in the side with his guitar and knocks him away like 5 feet and Tim just stands there with his hands up like "what the hell was that for?" After that song Tim actually said to the audience: "well you can see that this band is all about the guitar player." Thank god for his rhythm section or the whole show would have been horrible. I got to chat with his bass player for a while after the show and he seemed to concur with me on that issue. Man for a guy that likes to be called "Maestro", he sure needs to learn how to put the "Maestro" back into his show. I'm very disappointed with what I saw and can honestly say that I'll always respect his abilities (even though I can play anything that he does), but I won't ever respect him as a person again that way that I used to.

On a lighter note I got to meet a bunch of new people and hung out with some of them for the whole show. Beyond Fear's drummer Eric and their old bass player John are super cool dudes and Eric told me that Beyond Fear is Tim's main project and he's only singing for Yngwie for extra money right now. Cool part is that they both checked out my stuff and are totally into it so the seed has been planted and John actually shot me a friend request on myspace that night. Man to be able to be in a band with the likes of Tim "The Ripper" Owens and his unreal voice would be totally incredible!!! Even their manager took all of my info down like website, phone number, ect. and I've heard from him already as well. Guess I just had to get back out in the BIG scene rather than the bar scene where people all seemed to be scared away because the big fish are a totally into what I've been writing probably because they have the ability to hang with it and then some. We're all meeting up at the Augora again on November 9th for the In Flames, All That Remains, and 36 Crazy Fists show which is awesome!!! I CAN'T WAIT :D !!! It'd be cool if Tim can hang out too, but he'll still be on the road with Yngwie ("Mr. Attitude").

Being that I am an honest man as always...I must admit that I was wrong to get angered by people here dissing Yngwie the way that they did because that just showed my ignorance in the matter. So sorry bros and it won't happen again I promise. He is a great player, but that's about it...

I was a big fan of his back in the 80's. He's a turd though, such a jerk. He was a great player, not sure if he still is since I don't listen to him.

I went to a Satch show in Detroit a few weeks ago, amazing, truly. The following week was Yngwie, and they couldn't even give free tickets away to see that jackass. "Free tickets? Cool! Who is it? Ah... never mind. Well, give me two and I'll give them to someone".

Buddy signed up on his mailing list at the show. Put in this...

Yngwie is a douche...He plays guitar to show off instead of serving the song.

At least you got something positive out of the evening. You know, there's a progressive neuromuscular change that occurs in everyone as we age. You are all likely going to find that your chops will be different at 50 than they were at 20. Clapton's quoted as saying he wouldn't even begin to attempt some of his old stuff these days.

When an artist seriously begins to believe in his own press, it's time to pack it in and rest on past laurels.

I'll be paying homage to Les Paul next Monday night at the Iridium in NYC. Finally got around to doing that. He's certainly not the player he used to be but, even with his arthritis, he stays within his abilities, remains creative, and is true to his audience.

A class act, and no attitude. What's left for him to prove, anyway?

Doc

I saw Yngwie a couple weeks ago and he was great even non guitar music music listeners like my wife and her girlfriends enjoyed the show.

Love him or Hate him the man is unique and one of a kind. A true living legend I don't care what anyone says otherwise. :D

It's at moments like this that one has to decide whether dislikeable behavior gets in the way of the music or not. The answer seems to vary from case to case.

I've never been quite such a devoted fan of Mark Knopfler, but he's certainly had a huge influence on my playing over the decades. And, in contrast to the modest persona he projects in interviews, have a listen to what members of the original Dire Straits have to say about his attitude - including his own brother. He sounds utterly obnoxious.

I caught a glimpse of it myself at a big gig a couple of years ago when Knopfler damaged a nail and needed his tech to hand him out the nail clippers for a quick on stage repair. That tech responded as fast as humanly possible, far as I could see, yet was met with a petulant display of sneary insults for supposed tardiness - in front of about 20,000 people. Very unedifying: dressing down juniors in front of others is despicable at any time, let alone when it's not justified.

Can't help it, though: still like the man's playing. It was a great show, despite a nasty taste in the mouth.

There's others who's behavior has put me off them for life. And sometimes views they've expressed on non-musical matters... but we won't get into that here.

Cheers - C

Well, I think you should all count yourselves luck that he didn't

"UNLEASH THE FURY!!!"

I always thought he was a bit of a pretentious t**t.

I can remeber seeing The Wedding Presesent a few years back, and David Gedge (Singer Guitarist songwriter) cheerily discussed shampoo, old age, string breakage and the tempature of his guitars with the audience. A bloody nice bloke!

At Glastonbury festival one year, Norman from Teenage Fanclub said
"my mum lives round the corner from here. She says you can all use her toilet"

There's no need to hang around up your own a*se, is there?

More like "Unleash the Buffet" - Yangvie, Wootang, whatever his name is, was rather whale-like that last time I saw him.

Nice look. White boots skin tight pants and a lion's mane of hair. All on a body shaped like an orange on two toothpicks.

That is pretty funny, but in reality he actually looked like he did back in the mid-80's believe it or not. No belly or anything like that at all. It does suck though to look up to someone for so many years as a brilliant musician/person just to find out that everything that you thought he stood for was false. At least he sparked an interest in me to pick up an axe and learn how to play it to the best of my ability, but his "false" standards have now become my "real" standards and if that makes me arrogant, then so be it. There's much better ways to put on a show that people will never forget rather than to slop it up and throw your hair around like a super-model. I prefer to nail everything the way it's supposed to be played while still putting on a show, then when it's time to get stupid and play the almost impossible stuff; jump into the crowd so they can appreciate it up close and personal without being a complete $@!&#. The man CAN be brilliant when he wants to be, but the rest of the baggage should've been left at home...
