Great to see a lot of the mainstream press pick this story up. With all the crap music out there nowadays glad to see talented musicians get their due! :D

Now that's pretty damn funny bro  !!! I have to agree with ya on that man. Even though I was tough on the man in another thread, it was just because the live performance wasn't what I expected, but thinking about it in retrospect, he's a hell of a showman as well. He's got nothing left to prove so even if he doesn't really play the rhythm parts and just plays the same progressive parts that gets people's reaction alive, then I guess he's earning his cheese. I'll ALWAYS still put him up towards the top of my influence list, but some of the attitude needs to go. I know that Tim has one too (attitude that is), but he'd never move Yngwie out of the way just because Yngwie was in the spot that he wanted at the time. The man IS the god of neo-classical metal as we know it and THAT will NEVER CHANGE...

I saw Yngwie in 85' and I do not think I will EVER see a guitarist quite llike him ever again, and I was front row! I left that concert that night, and I knew I saw something special, that I will never forget.

+1 -- Yeah, I know what you mean. When he first hit, no one had chops like that. And he was so young. After the first time me and my git buddies saw him, we were all ready to sell off our guitars and take up chess...

I must admit that I was never a huge fan of his. But I have always had tremendous respect for his serious musicianship and unique musical vision.

The amount of personality and charisma Yngwie has onstage is unreal! You cant mess with this guy. Usually players of high skill come off "nerdy" so to speak but he doesnt. My wife noted that as well she said he has great stage presense. I can remember when I first heard Yngwie back in 1988, I was just a kid in middle school just blew me away! The inverted chords and riffs sounded so dark and heavy sounding, the souring melodic solos combined with atmospheric keyboard playing all wrapped in the tight power metal song structure.

I mean wow compared to other bands at that time, it is easy to see why his music has endured and lasted the test of time. I go to show's and see a whole new generation of fans jumping on board for Malmsteen the YouTube generation so to speak, god bless em and let's not forget the positive impact Yngwie continue's to have for Fender! I bought Fender guitars because of Yngwie! and my story isnt all that unique keep that in mind.

O.K. bro looks like you need to calm down a bit man. His stage show is just that...a show. If you know how he plays in real life (like I do), then what he does on stage is a complete joke of the "ideals" that he's about in the first place. He used to preach about picking every note (which I do), not being "fake" (as far as playing "rubbish"; those are his own words), and still being able to put on a show. Well...he can do one of the three!!! He can put on a show and that's about it. What he plays on stage is about 1/3 of any song that he's recorded, and myself being a "disciple" so to speak, that's a VERY disturbing fact. I expected him to play to "my" standards which I feel like I learned from him. That didn't happen  ...If you guys thought that the "show" was cool, then more power to ya, but if you thought that he lived up to his name/performance/standards level, then you'd better get off the mushrooms that grow in the farmer's fields...

This is the perfect example why I do not like attending concerts with fellow musicians my wife and her girlfriends are way more fun. I don't need to hear BS like oh he missed a pinch harmonic  why cant people just enjoy a show? Its a concert for pete's sake. Yes I know Malmsteen misses notes and can play sloppy at times. Guess what I do too, we all do, anyone who says otherwise is a liar. Plus Yngwie never professed to picking every note especially with the nerve damage in his hand. No mushroom smoking here I just like to enjoy music and great musicians without being a jaded overly critical arm chair critic.

Yeah man I do agree with most of that and I know that I was a little hard on the man, but only because he's the reason that I picked up an axe in the first place. I guess I just expected more. I'm not talking about missing a pinch harmonic, but rather sounding off open strings while in the middle of triplet and quad arpeggiated runs. It was a decent show, but when I play a gig I try to nail everything the way that it's supposed to be and then some. No arm chair critic here bro...I'm the REAL deal man :D . People critique me all the time and I take them all in stride and listen to them as well as that makes you a better player and clues you into what the crowd is really after and why they came to your show. No big deal man. Like I said before he is the god of neo-classical metal and nothing will ever change that. My years in college for performing arts/classical guitar made me more anal than most players because I had to be, but I guess it's alright to lay back every now and then...

I take critique with a grain of salt if it is from someone that isnt trying to be mean or spiteful then yeah its cool but I have found people can really go out of there way to tear you down, I dont get it. Usally what the crowd is after is performance. They want a show, They want to be entertained that what I meant about Malmsteen having good stage presense he can play like a MOFO but can entertain as well spinning the guitar around him throwing picks etc which looks easier than it really is.
