My wife isn't a musician. In fact, we don't have musical tastes in common. Although she goes to see NIN, The Damned, Supersuckers, Social D, etc. she really doesn't care. I buy the tickets and rock out, and she stands around 'people watching'. Anyway, she gets aggravated when I spend too much time playing rather than 'with her' (whatever that means!).

Last night's dialogue: Me: "If you could walk into Guitar center and money was no object, what kinda rig would you get?" Her: "Go to sleep." Me: "Come on, what would you buy?" Her: "Humbuckers." Me: "Humbuckers? But what kind of guitar?" Her: "Umm, the Joe Strummer Tele" (which is proof she at least listens to me from time to time). Me: "HUMBUCKERS?! On a TELE!? On the Joe Tele?" Her: "I'm serious. Go to sleep."

Ok, people... sound off...

My wife isn't a musician, but has heard a lot of music and is a good critic and supports whatever I decide to do. Maybe after 26 years of marriage and a few years together before that was good experience ?

My wife is pretty cool about my toys. She doesn't understand a thing about them, but she try's to understand my G. A. S.

One thing that does drive her nuts is why so many guitars. No matter how many times I try to explain that each is a different animal, it still doesn't sink in.

She does have a favorite though....my 1965 Guild CE 100D. She thinks it's pretty. She appreciates all things vintage.

Oh yeah, she doesn't like that I've taken an entire room in the house.

At least she's cool about the noise.

No aurgments here. I have full support. She actually encourages me to get up in the studio to play more than I do. Sorry to hear about you folks that get grief from your wives. Remember, we always have to make time with our other babes (and I am talking about our guitars).

My wife despises any trip to a guitar store. She stands around in a bored fashion and occaisionally asks when can we leave. I decided to go looking for a Ric 4003 once and she was absolutely bored to tears. The store I went to didn't have any Rics, so I tried a couple of Gibsons and a couple dozen Fenders. Nothing really reached out and grabbed me. We left.

A few MONTHS later, I'm back in the same store looking for an Aerodyne bass.......which they didn't have.........when one of the sales guys says "Say, weren't you in here awhile back looking for a Rickenbacker?" I tell him yes, so he shows me the TWO they had in stock....$1250! For two hours I switch between the two Rics, a couple of Music Man basses, and a couple of Fender basses. I kept going back to one of the 4003s. It 'spoke' to me sort of. It was also more expensive than the other basses. Finally she said "If thats the one you want, get it so we can go!"
......she's a sweetheart!

Believe me, it's an even trade off. Whenever I purchase a guitar, she gets something expensive too. Keeps her happy. Keeps me happy. too!

My wife gives me my time but expects her time too. She will go into a music store if it is a in and out excursion. As far as new gear, she has instituted a one in one out policy. I still love her!

My wife really likes music, and she likes mine. SHe doesn't mind the time I spend in the studio, because that's how I make a living.

She has no interest in the culture of buying Lots Of Gear, as most women don't. Frankly, neither do I.

Asking your wife what she would buy at CG is like her askingn you what kind of cosmetics you wish you could wear.

Sometimes I wish guys who are more interested in owning junk than making music would go back to model trains or whatever they all did before they decided guitars were so dang cool.

Mine is supportive, she thinks I spend to much time looking and shopping around instead of buying.

She doesn't understand the thrill of the hunt yet

Who's interested in owning junk? Not me. Never was into trains either. Boring. I don't own guitars because they're cool. I own guitars because I love them and use them!
