That's weird because it's the name of a minor league baseball team in New Orleans, La. :)

I like Greg Koch's suggestion of Festus McCorkindale and the All Night Pounders! :)

Do you think the majority knows who Hunter T. is? And who he wrote for? Oh no, I gave a clue! :)

Good grief, I was assuming he'd be a national icon - or symbol of infamy, or something at least.

Don't tell me he's merely forgotten! I grew up on The Great Shark Hunt...

:( - C

I gladly stand corrected!! :)

Unfortunately, I didn't notice a correction, F. You may well have been right. Tell me seriously whether Hunter Thompson is a well known name or not in your part of the world, far as you know.

I assumed I was making a reference everyone would get, but maybe not...?

Back to the thread. I always liked women's names on bands with guys in: Jane's Addiction, Alice Cooper, Marilyn Manson, yadda yadda...

So hows about Mary's Madhouse? Or Wrecked Veronica? Daisy Pulls It Off? Simple Susan? Girl Friday? Or go for gold: Mae West?

Cheers - C

Your question put me in mind of the funny story of how the first band I played came up with a name. (Maybe this will help you as well)! We couldn't think of anything so we began reading the track lists off the back of our bass player's rather large cd collection. After 15 minutes and still no name the other guitarist became frustrated and started goofing off reading anything in sight. When he came to his amp, he began reading the controls - "Treble, Bass, Middle, Overdrive . . ." "That's it!", the drummer exclaimed, and sure enough, we chose to be called "Overdrive"!

When two high school friends and I began to play seriously, we didn't have a name. But we figured we should, once we picked up a rhythm player and a bass player -- it helps to have something to put on the flyers and ads. But we were stuck until one day the singer is describing one of his uncle's antics.

The guy was Greek and he'd yell and swear a lot at his wife -- who was Lebanese. No one understood a word he said usually, but our singer said one word he used a lot sounded out as "scarbitia". Meaning -- so he was told anyway -- garbage (in the context of "You're GARBAGE") in Greek.

Since our collective parents had already proclaimed what we played as excessively loud, unmelodic garbage, the name stuck. We never knew for sure if that's what the word really meant or even if we were spelling it correctly.

From a P/R standpoint though, it worked well ... people remembered us as "that band with the funny sounding name."

bluez81: I guess your "Overdrive" didn't do any BTO, eh? Bachman & Turner might have sued for a rip-off, LOL ..... (However, since they're Canadian, a cross-border legality wouldn't hold much water.)

There are websites for that sort of thing. Basically, random band name generators.

Here's one I found along with a random sample.

There's also this one that has shown up on these boards before-
