On the cover of his new single, "Did You Miss Me" Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac and solo fame shows off the well-worn Strat he uses to record. Check out the blistering guitar in his latest album, Gift of Screws. Fender needs to put out a Buckingham Strat. He's one of the biggest-selling and most accomplished musicians around.

Talented player absolutely.

I'm not sure that he is "know" for being a Strat player though.
I'll bet that is a major consideration before deciding to produce an artist Signature model.

Still, a worthwhile suggestion.

Buckingham's web site has a description of his guitar preferences. His Turner is mainly for on-stage with Fleetwood Mac because it matches up with Fleetwood's drums and McIvie's base. In the 1970s with Buckingham Nicks they had kind of a country sound. He played a Tele onstage and had to switch to match the Fleetwood Mac sound. He used a Les Paul for a while and didn't care for it and then got the Turner. All along, for recording and at least one song on stage, Buckingham's been playing an early 1960s Strat. Check out the cover of the single on Amazon and you'll see it's a heavy relic Strat at this point because he's been playing it for 45 years. A lot of the amazing guitar and guitar/studio work on Out Of The Cradle and Say You Will is a Strat. If you listen to the tone, you'll hear that excellent Strat voice singing.

Isn't his main guitar some kind of quirky acoustic/electric or something that looks like one?

I think it is yes. That's why I said earlier that since he's not known as a "Stratman" that's probably why there isn't a signature model out there. The dude play all kinds of guitars amazingly, but he's not associated with Strats.

It would be kind of like making a Keith Richards Strat because he sometimes plays one.

Now a "Keef" Tele might be a cool item :D

He used to play a tele back in the day. His main guitar, the one he's known for and the one he plays most of the time, is a custom made guitar. He wanted a single coil sound but not as piercing as the normal single coil guitars, and les pauls were too thick, so he had that custom made one.

With that said, I've played a lot of his stuff, probably one of my favorite players. I can get his tone pretty close on my strat, but that's also a lot of time trying to nail that tone, some amp tweaking (mesa boogie), and knowing his playing style so that's part of my technique.

See the current issue of 'Guitar Player'. Santana's on the cover. Interesting article on Buckingham inside. Covers many of the bases.
