Whats the difference between a regular signature with words and one with a big photo and words? The signature with the big photo will confuse readers because it looks like the photo is a part of your inquiry.... You ask about 2 strats, but it almost seems like you have a question about a '51 and a Strat....

I find midboosts more versatile than s1 switching. The out of phase sounds on s1 sound far too sharp for my liking.

I can see what you mean. But i think people would know that those pics do not go along with the question. Or have anything to do with the question. They are 2 of my guitars that show up when i post.

Nikinnja. I see or hear what you mean. The S1 does sound good, i like the way i can change tones using all the sources of the guitar and amp. I wish i could find a powerhouse to try out. Thanks. Anyone else have any thoughts? :?:

get the one with s1 switching and put a clapton 25db midboost in it too. That would provide the unbeatable strat in my opinion. Do everything and it would need no drive pedals.

The Deluxe Powerhouse is MIM. The bottom tone control activates the 12dB boost which is great for adding some crunch to your sound on the fly. The Powerhouse has been called a "poor man's Blackie" because it has the boost and noiseless pups like Clapton's sig model. I have a beautiful one in Inca Silver that I absolutely love.

Here's a bit of vintage which some may remember, and I have written on this elsewhere. About 15 years ago there appeared the original Buddy Guy Signature Strat, a blond, maple V-neck, w/tortoise-shell scratchplate and a 12db midboost. It was a great looking axe. I searched for but could never find one of those anywhere. It didn't last long in that form and thence the evolution into it's present incarnations

What to do with an old idea??? Enter 'The Powerhouse." The pickups have been upgraded but the concept remains. I wouldn't even stoop to call it a "poor man's Blackie". It's another great guitar with a different voice.

Doc

Need no drive pedals! BLASHPEMY!
Even if you don't need drive pedals, you NEED drive pedals!

I like drive pedals
Got lots of 'em
I need an intervention

Oh, Oh!
"Gear snobbery" raises it's ugly head here on the Forum!

All my guitars are American made, but I'll shred on a Squier, MIM guitar, or American Series and it all sounds good. Less expensive doesn't always mean "cheap", and buying an expensive guitar doesn't make you a better player.

Play em, love em

Mr Thorn.

Im a lover of drive pedals myself and have quite a collection. I'm currently considering a TS808 reissue i've seen for $190. Sometimes though i love to just plug into a amp and let rip, particularly at auditions when nobody knows the secret drive trick. :D .

Doc.
I'm sure you chose wisely, my only attraction towards the s1 is that i'm a switching freak who changes pickup position 5 times a song. Its one of the many reasons i gave up on pedals, i was playing the pedals more than the guitar.

Good observation. I've seen some amazingly good low end gear out there.
You have to shop around.
