Well I for one want him to know that I appreciate his sacrifices and service to our country so the rest of us can enjoy playing our guitars etc. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :)

I sure hope he gets to see my post. In my opinion military personnel never get enough recognition!!

Hopefully I can catch him at home later today. I'll make sure I tell him about this thread.

He has only been on Aircraft Carriers as far as I know.[/quote]

+1 on Hopkins' thoughts. I commented on the pin thinking that they looked like twin dolphins.

Hey guys, thanks for the kind words!

No, I'm not a Nuke. The pins are Surface and Air warfare. I'm a topside (Comm) tech. Mostly UHF and SATCOM systems. I'm a carrier type, having served on 65, 76 and presently 77. USS Enterprise from 93-98 and Ronald Reagan from 02-05. I got to the George H.W. Bush a little more than a month ago. From 98-02, I was an instructor at FCTCLANT Dam Neck teaching JMCIS and FTAS. While I was there, I earned my Master Training Specialist, which is roughly equivalent to a warfare pin. From 05 to September of this year, I was under the radar as a maintenance tech at a really small command at Naval Station Norfolk.

I came into the Navy as a Data Systems tech back in 1992, made E6 in 4 years 10 months, then was force converted to Fire Control Tech. I had already accepted orders to teach computer school, which was an Electronics Tech school, but the detailer and I had a "disagreement" and he forced me to stay FC. A year and a half later, he finally came to his senses and allowed me to convert to ET . . . as an FC, I wouldn't have even been allowed to attend the school that I was supervising.

Unfortunately, the ET rate is really closed up as far as promotions. In the last cycle, they only promoted 6.5% of the eligible candidates. So, I've been an E6 for almost 12 years now.

No regrets. It's been a combination of good and bad, but I've learned to have a stay fairly positive even when things really suck.

Wow, bro is the Naval elite. He's a nuke. There's something to be proud of.

Extremely proud of my little brother!!!!!!

Chet,
You should be proud of him - the Navy nuke life can be a tough one. Tough on him and all of his family for that matter. I, for one, am grateful for his service. And I would appreciate it if you would pass that on to him.

Thanks, sir. Likewise, thanks for the time you put in!

BTW, I started my career as an O branch CT...
