I'll start. (In no particular order)

The Fleet Foxes - self titled album
I love it.
If you've not heard them they sound a bit like Crosby Stills and Nash meets Simon and Garfunkle with a bit if Brian Wilson thrown in.

The Ravonettes - Lust Lust Lust.
Dirty fuzzy reverby 1950's inspired pop genius!

Vampire Weekend - self titled album.
Very original - a little bit two tone sounding, or the Police with folk instruments! Great drum rythms, really simple catchy guitar lines. Cool!

Et toi?

Jeez, I don't even remember which bands released albums this year other than Metallica. And they're definitely not a favorite - even though I bought the album!

1) I was not a fan of them until seeing them play live this year. They were very good live, and the new album is pretty good. They are kinda like a heavy version of the Black Crowes:
Buckcherry -- Black Butterfly
2) Metallica's album is not that great IMO. The cover is cool, though...
3) Extreme's new album "Saudades de Rock" is EXCELLENT

There are so many that I haven't heard, but of what I have heard, I'd nominate (in no particuliar order) :

The Black Keys - Attack and Release
Van Morrison - Keep It Simple
Steve Winwood - Nine Lives

I also love the Vampire Weekend album...
I also really like the album 'Oracular Spectacular' by MGMT.

Well at least no one said SRV! Perhaps he didn't make an album this year?

So far I've only purchased three, but I like them all, so:

Metallica - Death Magnetic

Weezer - The Red Album

Russian Circles - Station (amazing instrumental album, check them out)

Walter Trout - The Outsider
Sonny Landreth - Into The Reach
Joe Bonamasa - Live from Nowhere in Particular

Bonus: New Dave Mason CD was just delivered to my doorstep yesterday - "26 Letters, 12 Notes". We don't talk much about Dave here. That's a shame. Great musician, long and storied history. This album is his first studio album in 7 years and so far is very, very, very good..

+1 on the Fleet Foxes album, I absolutely love it! I don't have it anymore though, some idiots broke in to my car and stole the stereo and a bunch of cd's and Fleet Foxes was among them..

hmm.. I can't think of any other albums at the moment..

One of my favorites was Disturbed's new album. Nice to actually hear them feature guitar solos and tear it up a bit. Overall probably their best one I've heard.

second might be Metallica. I'm a huge fan and biased, but it's the best workout album i've ever listened to.

as for the 3rd, there's still time, right?

I was actually a little disappointed in the black keys new effort. Sounded much too clean for their style. I still love them, great blues band.

That's pretty poo! I'm feeling pretty lucky as my wifes sister got us some tickets to go and see them next month.

I haven't been excited about a gig for a while!
