I only trust commercial guitar cleaner and polishes on my guitars. I'd never try anything like "windex". The guitar cleaners are MADE for guitars, they don't cost a fortune, so why not use that?

I agree: damp cloth and water.

But I will confess to administering a good old fashioned spit shine every now and then.

I wouldn't be putting water near my guitar!!!

Just a yellow duster is fine (maybe a bit of furniture polish for a really dirty guitar)

Nothing waterbased!!!!!

Anything liquid has water in it somewhere--unless you're putting powder on your guitars it's getting water of some sort.

And the references are to damp-not wet--so it's okay it wipes it & dries up right away--damp--not wet.

Personally I'm not a big fan of furniture polish. I used it on one of my acoustics before and it made it very slippery. I play sitting mostly and it wanted to slide off of my leg. It was pretty though.

I've heard articles that say Furniture polish is not good for guitars. I imagine that someone will argue that there is no harm to using it. But......Why not have the peace of mind, not use it, and buy products that are specifially made for guitar finishes? It's not like they cost a fortune. They're probably about the same price as furniture polish, and if not, very close. Common sense tells me, to use the guitar specific products to clean and polish a guitar.

But........it's your guitar.....do what you want. I know (and have peace of mind) that what I'm using will not hurt my guitar.
