I buy Gibson guitar polish from a music retailer. It lasts ages for a small bottle, which is nice. It'd be a good idea to find out what kind of finish furniture is finished with before you go taking household furniture cleaning products on your guit-fiddle.

I would not use something like 409 or Fantastic or Mr. Clean on a guitar. I'd use something milder. I wipe my guitars with a Fender cloth sprayed with a bit of Dunlop 65 cleaner. I also use Fender fretboard cleaner.

You need to get a bottle of Dunlop 65 and Mr. String Fellows Lem Oil fret board conditioner

You don't.
You can use a damp cloth on a lacquered finish--but not on a French polish.
So on a Strat you'd be okay.

I agree: damp cloth and water.

But I will confess to administering a good old fashioned spit shine every now and then.

I clean my accustic guild with a mild mix of T S P to get the body salts & persperation out of the wood & follow that up with some good old pledge with lemmon oil, or you could use Murphy's wood soap, on my ele, git's I'll wipe them down with a damp soft cloth & then I'll use martin guitar polish, if there is a better & simpler way I'd like to know

I wouldn't be putting water near my guitar!!!

Just a yellow duster is fine (maybe a bit of furniture polish for a really dirty guitar)

Nothing waterbased!!!!!

This works. In a pinch I've used Orange Glo to clean my guitar.

Dunlop 65 here too, and a shammy.

TSP can dry out the wood, and pledge contains silicone which once in the wood you will never get out again. It's not good to use on fine furniture or guitars.

I use Arthur Formbys lemmon oil furniture restorer it replaces the natural oils in the wood they also have a cleaner that removes polish build up. It runs about 5 bucks at you local hardware.

I use the Fender Instrument Care Kit, it's good stuff. I use it on all my guitars, I've never had a problem with it.

I've been using Pledge for some 20+ years and none of my guitars have suffered any ill affects at all from its use.
