Anything except those "metal geared" guitars are fairly good for blues. But to answer your question...what Fender is NOT good for blues?

I have a Mustang, a couple of Teles and a Strat and they're all good for one kind or other of blues. The Mustang and Hwy 1 Tele are good for rural/country picked blues.

The Thinline is nice for jazzy style blues and the Chicago sound; the Strat's what I grab for when in a Texas/Rock-blues mood.

So yep, all good for blues.

I had exactly the same question prior to buying my guitar. I decided on a standard strat because it is such a popular guitar among today's blues players. The whammy bar gets a lot of use in today's blues, so that sets the strat apart from some of the other options. I think it was a good choice, and I'm very happy with it.

For me the Strat probably just takes it.

The idea is to buy a guitar that sounds good to you before you buy it. I never understood buying a brand new guitar and immediately swapping out pups. But that's just me. Have you played the standard? Did you like the tone you got from it? If you have and don't like the tone maybe you should a get a strat loaded with Texas Specials or some pup you do like.

:) new they are running 1200$-1500$ in Canada depending on which deluxe it is..
So the 1000$ price seems ballpark for a slightly used one if the condition is good.

I don't get this silly notion of a 'good blues guitar'

Surely that's missing the point.

You should all log onto Youtube and search 'Sea sick Steve'

He's got a good blues guitar.

In surfing there is a saying, "It's not the board, it's the rider". Put any guitar in a good blues players hand and it is a blues guitar.

As far as Teles for blues, they were good enough for Albert Collins which I consider a definitive endorsement.

I kind of like my MIA strat pluss deluxe for the blues because the fret board has 22 medium frets (high D) as I like to play the high notes, my MIM 72 reissue tele & MIM tele standard work just as well with 21 frets, why doesn't fender make a neck with 24 frets ???????

Feeling here is kind of a parallel to which piece/ gat / heater / roscoe is best for self-defense.

The one you have with you "when the need arises."

'Agree with last two postings. 'Don't get the notion, and it's the player, not the instrument. A hotdogger could shoot the curl riding a coffee table from Wal-Mart.

Yeah, with the legs still screwed on and holding the lamp.

How else could an SG and Strat and OOO-18 and and Tele and ES-335 and Flying V and LP and Dobro and cheap-afs plywood 12 string and Firebird all sing so equally righteous-soulfully 'bout that mean woman what left yaws for 'nother man...? And took yo' dawg.

And furniture and clothes and Electra Deuce and a Quarter...and pickup truck. And money. And that last half bottle of whiskey. And the glasses. And pots and pans.

Left you with a Sears garage sale guitar with 3 strings, eight empty beer bottles, a full ashtray of butts with her lipstick to remind you...and a lawn mower what don't run.

Mean, mean woman. Now, play the blues on what you got.

A Strat or Tele through a Pro Reverb works pretty good.

I have a MIJ Squier that I modified with a Floyd Rose, Texas Specials in the neck & mid positions and a DiMarzio Vintage Blues humbucker in the bridge. This setup sounds sweet through my Blues Jr NOS. For playing blues, I generally use only a Tube Screamer, Planger & MXR Carbon Copy Analog Delay. I like the neck position for leads and mid for rythm. When trying to mimic certain artists like Albert King, I will play the bridge but, this tends to be a bit too twangy sounding for my tastes.
