Arrived JFK out of Fort Lauderdale about 10:50 pm on the 14th. Back here now roughly 45 min and catching up. Hope this finds you all well and those expecting seeing some daylight. The only "Gilmour" I acquired was the brand of the garden hose sprayers I purchased. :P

Caught the last 15 minutes of a "Hard Rock" concert on the VH1 Classic Channel enroute: Clapton, Randolph, Mayer, Crowe, et al.

What was I watching and is it available on commercial release. Looked like one helluva concert. Mayer has Clapton dimed!!

More later.

Best.

Doc

Hi, Doc: good to have you back. Hope you got a bit of a rest from your amazingly long working days.

Regarding that concert: I believe Mayer and Clapton have done several shows together recently, but your mention of Sheryl Crowe as well makes me wonder if it was a concert I saw over the summer.

The Hard Rock Cafe sponsored an annual summer fest we have here in Hyde Park, London - a stone's throw away from the one and original Cafe, as it happens. We got the line-up you mentioned on the Saturday; Sunday was The Police - supported by KT Tunstall (amongst others) who turned out to give a kicking show. A comfortably small 30,000 capacity crowd for the weekend festival, with the added benefit of going home to sleep in one's own bed at night...

If what you saw looked like my photo below then it was indeed the same show. I'd love to have that on DVD but I've just had a look around and not found it issued yet, in my part of the world at any rate. It was a good one in many ways: Clapton was on top form, I thought, through the best sounding large-ish PA I can remember. Mayer, who I've not seen live before was excellent too - though Slowhand's crown was safe, far as I was concerned.

And the director of video on the screens around the stage (and I presume for the footage you saw) was either a guitarhead himself or appreciated that half the audience were, because the camera was looking just where we'd want it for nearly all the important bits. I got a good look at that finger vibrato you've talked about. Very satisfying!

Was it that one?

Anyway. Interested to hear about your watering system. I can't run to a DG guitar at present, but I could probably stretch to a Gilmour Signature Garden Sprayer! (I might post pics of Dave's boat and garden sometime, soon as some others have added pics to the T-shirt thread. Then we can compare his lawn with yours...)

Cheers - C

Same one, was it? That's a different drummer than I've seen before with Clapton. Any idea who he is? A fellow with a very individual look...

Yeah that's the same drummer. He must be good because I've seen him play with Sir Paul in the Red Square concert! Or somewhere in Russia? I've got it recorded.

I saw that concert yesterday on vh1 classic and it was amazing! It looks like the same concert I watched.
For a concert on tv it was very good. I have to agree about the man directing the cameras. He must be a guitar guy. Most directors can't film a guitar player in a way that is not frustrating to people who do play, and this guy just knew right away to film the good bits. The camera work was Fantastic!
And I loved the Police! :D

[quote="vwralph"]I saw that concert yesterday on vh1 classic;

This confirms the concert and the feed. I'll have to be alert for a possible re-rerun, save it to my DVR and go for a DVD burn at home.

Thanks y'all.

[quote="Ceri"]Hi, Doc: good to have you back. Hope you got a bit of a rest from your amazingly long working days.

Appreciate your thoughts. This was a 'workation'. Much to do getting a house up and going after any kind of construction. Had some storm damage to deal with, and and A/C which will need a high colonic to put right.

All should be in place for me when I return there in late December. The wife will precede me by about four weeks and stay through February. Those are the days when amp volume is not an issue up North. :P

Doc

Macca's drummer, Abe Laboriel, Jr., also played on Clapton's "Back Home"...

from the '05 CD link :

"Back Home" features guests including Steve Winwood, who teamed with Clapton in Blind Faith; Paul McCartney drummer Abraham Laboriel, Jr.; Who bassist Pino Palladino; pedal-steel guitar star Robert Randolph, who opened for Clapton on last year's tour; and singer-songwriter-guitarist John Mayer."

edited to add a warm, welcome home, Doc.
