Just wondering, did she talk to you like a regular person, or like you are a third grader, cause thats how she seems to talk to people sometimes on the TV, like we are a bunch of children...And this 32 year old grown *ss man doesn't like that...or maybe its just me...

Warning; rant.

Why do euros so nauseatingly constantly and conveniently forget / sidestep / live in denial of / be aloof from / not be respectful of the reality of the despised and demeaned armed, religious Americans twice in this country's short history coming at great sacrifice to help save a Europe which could not save itself...and then, for 40+ years, be their shield from invountarily (?) being "encouraged" to speak an eastern language.

Oh, and by the way, AMERICANS invented and produced the Telecaster and Les Paul and 6120 and Dual Showman and Jazzmaster and Super Reverb and Country Gentleman and Twin Reverb and '58 Bassman and Stratocaster and ES-335 and Princeton Reverb and Jaguar and SG and D-28 and Jazz Bass and Thunderbird and ES-175 and Precision Bass and Firebird and the Blues and Rock & Roll and surf music and jazz...and...

...the B-52 Stratofortress and Polaris missile submarine which discouraged 'other people' from pursing interests which included europe, for many recent decades.

Please, let us be civil and knowlegeable and grateful and mindful of history, here.

Actually, the founding fathers did no such thing. The pledge of allegiance, written in 1892 by a socialist named Francis Bellamy, originally read as follows:

"I pledge allegiance to my flag and the Republic for which it stands - One nation indivisible - with liberty and justice for all."

The pledge underwent a few minor adjustments over the years, and the phrase "under God" was finally added in 1954 in an attempt to distinguish us from the "godless" communists.

Google God and the Constitution. Our forefathers knew what they were doing.

"At the same time, the framers of our Constitution did not want America to become a theocracy. They did not believe in a theocratic state. The framers of our Constitution did not want clergymen to pick the Presidents and set government policy. This is not to say, however, that they saw no role for religion in government. The framers most certainly did believe that religion and religious values should influence the government and its policies. George Washington's first Proclamation as President made this abundantly clear. On the day that Congress finished its work on the First Amendment, they called on Washington to issue a Proclamation to the people of the United States to thank God for the freedoms we enjoy. A week and a day later the President's opening paragraph in his Proclamation said: "Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor . . ."2 The words "to obey His will" are fatal to any suggestion that George Washington and the framers of our Constitution believed in "secularism." In America, religious values influence government policy through the vote of the people. "

Oh dear, I made myself promise never to get involved in this kind of thread. But I just can't stop myself...

As a huge admirer and friend to America I spend a fair amount of energy reminding my fellow Europeans not to judge and stereotype that amazing country by the remarks of one or two of its most extreme politicians, which get gleefully reported here out of all context.

A country of 300 million do not all think the same way, I tell people. Go there, meet them and discover that the place is very different than the simplified idea you have of it.

Perhaps that could work the other way around, too? The European Union (which is not even the whole of Europe) is a group of 27 countries and 490 million people, and a vast diversity of views. Don't judge us all by the sillier outpourings of extreme politicians pandering to insular constituencies.

Just for example, I can assure you that at the time in Britain we were heatedly debating whether to support America in Afghanistan and Iraq there was a very great deal of talk and remembrance of World Wars I and II and we have come with you on those two highly questionable excursions very much out of a sense of sticking by our most loyal ally. No "nauseating denial" of the past there, I trust.

And, on a lighter note, I do hope I have done my own tiny bit to heap praise and admiration on the head of Leo Fender and the country he came from for the guitars his company builds. Sort of the reason this particular European is here, after all!

I'm for peace and better understanding, ladies and gentlemen! And I shall continue to like you, your country and its doings no matter how "aloof" and "not respectful" you may think me...

Best wishes to you all - C

It is funny how some people seem to mix up a saturday night skit with the real person, all of the sudden this very intelligent strong minded person is thought of as a dingbat.

Some in America are duped by an ignorant portrayal.

I think the lady's resume shows the truth about her.
