Went to see Joe last night. Great show!! Made even better by the guest appearance by Larry Carlton. Joe introduces Larry as one of his idols and then slyly states: "well, I guess we'll play some blues...." Boy, did they...Joe on his new Gibson signature Goldtop and Larry on that ES-335 of his.

BTW, show was opened by a 17 year old kid from Texas named Tyler Bryant. Hot Strat player. Watch for him, you will be seeing that name again, I guarantee.

Excellent! Both Joe and Larry are fabulous players.

If that is the Tyler I am thinking of he is well known to SRV fans in Texas.

Not that I am aware of. He has a couple of his songs on his myspace page and you can find some video clips on youtube. That is about it right now. But I bet it won't be long if he is opening for Bonamassa...

To return to Joe Bonamassa for a minute: that guy is absolutely the tops, far as I'm concerned. Everything I want and almost nothing I don't want in a live show.

My part of the world he's still relatively new so we still get to see him in tiny to medium venues: always the best. First time I saw him was in a 400 standing only club and he was an hour and a half late coming on. A very polite crowd was nevertheless beginning to find their feet getting a little sore and tempers started fraying. Finally, Joe bounded on and broke straight into Bridge to Better Days, and within seconds everyone in the audience were looking round at each other with "ye-e-e-s!" big grins on their faces. A totally kicking show.

Go, Joe! - C

He played at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center (TPAC) in one of the theaters, still a small setting. BTW, the version of Sloe Gin on the new live CD was recorded there last year. Anyway, I was six rows up on the left side, which put me at Joe's head level and directly centered on his pedal board...great seats...

What I love is he does not chit chat between songs. Just song into song into song one after another.

I've seen Joe twice at the Western Maryland Blues Fest. They were the best shows I have ever been to! :D . James Cotton Band was there too. That was a treat.

Hey, Troublecall: last time this thread was bouncing around I meant to ask you, how do you know that Sloe Gin was recorded at the TPAC? I can't find information on which track was recorded where - and I'm curious to know...

Cheers - C

I have no familiarity with him but I sincerely hope he is not another 'clone'. SRV's signature sound should be let be. It's one thing to draw inspiration, but artists need to find their own unique voices.

I wish anyone making the attempt in this business the best of luck always, but be original.
