Hello, everybody! I mainly listen to all kinds of music, especially a lot of Metal lately. Long ago, it was "Progressive Rock"... and much to my wife's displeasure I am still a long time Frank Zappa fan.

I can listen to almost anything with a guitar in it, actually.

But... I have to admit that I'm a sucker for power pop. It goes way back to Todd Rundgren. My new guilty pleasure is Butch Walker. The first time I heard "Freak Of The Week" I just had to hear more. He also produced for the likes of Pink... Average Lavine... Bowling for Soup... :x

For a while he was dethroned by Fountains Of Wayne...

Anyway... is there anyone out there like that? Is there someone you listen to who you wouldn't admit you do to your Blues friends?

'Call Me' By Spagna. I still think it was one of the best pop songs ever written.

Actually, I am pretty shameless - I listen to a wide variety of music and admit to all of it. As a curmudgeon-in-training, I don't have to give a flip about anyone's opinion about my opinions....

But I have developed a soft spot for a young Australian singer-songwriter named Missy Higgins. I listen to her two CDs quite often and find her quite refreshing...

I created my own "greatest hits" albums in iTunes for Kiss & Ted Nugent. They are both pretty rockin' albums.

Is it lame to listen to Blind Melon?
Eh. I don't feel guilty, but.

No, not at all. They were great.

Anybody remember that big hit "Blue" by Eiffel 65? Every time I listen to it I feel I want to play along with it on the guit-fiddle.

Igor Stravinsky's work. That music is strange in a good way.
And the compositions for pipe organ or harpsichord by J.S. Bach.

My tastes cover such a large span of music that there are alot of groups I listen to that I would not want to admit to friends who are more focused on one genre. I listen to anything from ABBA to Buddy Guy to James Taylor, to Zepplin and more. Pssst. Don't tell anyone...

"Havana Moon" - Jesse J Great emerging jazz saxophonist, playing smooth and Latin jazz.

But one look at the cover or her pictures and your wife/girlfriend is going to be saying "Yeah, right ... you just bought that for her music ... just like you only read the articles on her Web site!"

My guilty pleasure is listening to Mercyful Fate. I do not care for the lyrics and the singer sounds like a unic and they are too Satanic...but their sound. If anyone has a chance to hear them, listen to the songs Melissa and To One Far Away/Come to the Sabbath (try to ignore the lyrics and singer's voice).

None. My mantra is a Duke Ellington qoute. "There are only two kinds of music. Music that sounds good, and whatever you want to call that other stuff." 8)

I got over whether others thought my tastes in music were hip or cool a LONG time ago, so there's no reason for me to hide my taste.

"We've only just begun" by the Carpenters. That song just makes me happy. I think it makes me happy because I used to work in a grocery store that played super lame soft stuff. We've only just begun was the most rockin thing on the tape (and yes, it was a cassette tape in those days!) I must admit though, it's pretty lame.

I am more of a classic rock guy myself. But I can't dismiss the musical genius of Clean Up Woman by Betty Wright. The rhythm guitar on this track is nothing short of amazing!

I wonder if Steve Cropper wrote it. It sounds like something he would do!

True. And yet I am still ashamed that when it came out I bought Welcome to My Nightmare by Alice Cooper. I am even more ashamed that every couple of years I drag it out and give it a listen. And I'm most ashamed that there's bits of it I still quite enjoy.

It's not shame at what others would think. It's embarrassment at my own disapproving reflection in the mirror.

 - C

PS But I'd never admit any of that to anyone...
