No joy in the 401K or investments world, but as said eloquently above, many things could be much, much worse, but for the grace.

Interesting thread, thank you for sharing.

We're doing pretty well. We're lucky to be debt free for the most part. It's mostly the inflation that's bothering me. Like someone earlier said, you don't lose much if you don't have much to start with.

Who cares? I just keep going to work and paying my golldurn taxes. At least I don't owe nobody nuthin'.

I love corporate welfare! Ain't the first time I 've been through this crap and surely won't be the last.

Buncha big spoiled irresponsible brats. Watch kiddies -- this is how adults act - good role models, eh?

I'm lucky in that, as I stated in the Day Gig thread, I work for my ex and her mother in a business that's fairly technical and doesn't have a lot of practitioners. We have a good rep and get a lot of calls requiring our services; for example, we've been working on a project at the PA Turnpike for going on 3 years.

My ex-bro-in-law, though...different story. His bread-and-butter used to be repairing foundation cracks. These days, though, homeowners are looking at gas prices, and electricity prices, and food prices, and saying, "Yeah, that crack in our basement can wait a bit." So he's a-hurtin' a little.

Like Troublecall, I'm retired, I've got my military pension. What I don't have is alimony, a mortgage (no money pit for me!), or any significant bills. I rent, and I like it. Back when I was stationed in California, my co-workers used to brag about the 'deals' they got on houses, when things were going up up up up (2002-2006)! One of them bought a house in Las Vegas for their retirement. I wonder how they're doing now?

BTW, dont'cha just love Wall Street? If they're not getting drunk on greed and giving the rest of us a hangover, then they throw temper tantrums like a 2 year old when things don't go their way (note all the point drops recently). I dunno, if you ask me, the last place I want to invest my money is with a system that acts like a drunk 2 year old.

RETIREMENT PLANNING!!!!!

Retirement Plan Investment Tip

If you had purchased $1000.00 of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now
be worth $49.00.
>>
With Enron, you would have $16.50 left of the original $1000.
>>
With WorldCom, you would have less than $5.00 left.
>>
If you had purchased $1000.00 of Delta Air Lines stock you would have
$49.00 left.
>>
If you had purchased United Airlines, you would have nothing left.
>>
But, if you had purchased $1000.00 worth of beer one year ago, drank all
the beer, then turned in the cans for the aluminum recycling refund you
would have $214.00.
>>
Based on the above, the best current investment advice is to drink
heavily and recycle.
>>
This is called the 401-Keg Plan.

I cant complain. Things could be better, but could be a whole lot worse. I feel I have alot to be thankful for.
