I am thinking about coming home. I can barely make rent.

How is everyone else holding up?

I'm doing just fine, knock on wood.

I have no rent, so I could hang on for a while even if I lost my job.

That's great! I am currently working as a dive master at one of the resorts here, but I am tired of living at the poverty level. Sure, sand, surf, women, but I need more money so I can buy more guitars;)

I was lucky enough to have bought my current house 10 years ago they have since gone up 180% in my neighborhood don't no how newer residents do those payments but mine is less the most 2 bedroom apartments. Its not bad for just under 2500 sq feet. Most 2 bedroom apartment in my area go for 1100 to 1200 a month. For us it is the utilities cost is nuts in Md it has more them doubled in the last 18 months that 350 to 400 hurts. We just paid close to 7000. to up grade to a good high effiency HVAC in the hopes to help there its supposed to pay for itself in saving in 5 years and with cost going up that should take less time to then that. And the taxes have gone through the roof in Md. property tax up sales tax up 20% they now tax services if you can tax it they now do it and all in the last 2 years. Sadly our income has not gone that way so we just don't save like we used to.

It's tough, I seriously think I am going to work until the day I die.
My investments tanked. I would have been better to buy a bunch of CS guitars. Jeeze they hold their value longer!!!

Hello BlueJayWay,

Things are good here in the outskirts of
Philidelphia, I could be better off but then
again I could be worse off.

Something I read as a wee lad:
Once I felt bad because I had no shoes,
until I met a man with no feet.

Always look on the bright side of life.

Cheers.

As a professional musician, I hope the wealthy folks and standing corporations will still have parties...thus gigs. Although, things are definitely slowing down. At this point it is hard to make ends meet. I hope the dominoes don't fall.

I lost a few thousands in Mutual Funds, but other than that, I'm doing just fine.

Two incomes, no kids (yet). So, not too bad. I'm very glad I bought my '08 in July when I did though, as of now I might not have.

It's not so much the economy, but my medical co-pays for us. I just paid $400 for hospital co-pays (surgeries/scans/procedures) and it's $30 co-pay everytime I walk in the door for each chemo treatment along with prescription co-pays.

We also have thousands in co-signed student loans for our son, but I don't worry about anything but my health at this point while fighting cancer.

As long as you have your health, everything else will work out.

So far not so bad, my wife lost her role at work to the Czech Rep. She's found another role with the same hrs and pay. So not worried yet. Investments are crap...Hanging on tho. Hope everyone will be able to come out of this too.

Invest in TV manufacturers!

With the US Digital conversion coming in February, there could be a lot of demand for better sets?

Mixed bag on this end.
Retired Navy, so some income and medical no matter what (if only my first wife didn't get such a chunk of my retirement - oh well, we all make mistakes).

I am the facilities engineer for a trucking company. Economy is crap - business is bad. But - even if we go down, I will be the "lock the doors and turn the lights out" guy - so I will hang on until the bitter end....

HAD TO TAKE A 10% REDUCTION IN PAY THIS WEEK
IT'S BETTER THEN COLLECTING COOL AID (unemployment)
ALL MY INVESTMENTS ARE LIKE RAP, but this is how I look at it,
sometimes you'll be driving in you car or whatever and you'll see this poor soul in a wheelchair all twisted & contorted & blowing in some kind of mouthpiece to make the motorized wheelchair move & you look & say wow or whatever, yep there's a good chance one of us could have wound up like that, yep things could be worse.
