I really dig John Mayer's new stuff like Continuum. You guys MUST hear "Where the Light Is", a 2 disk audio or the DVD. Dude is awesome

I'm seventeen, so I guess I'm still classified as a kid.
Yes, I listen to old music. From the '60s to the '90s.
I despise the majority of new music.
I love rock and roll and heavy metal.

Here's the deal in my school, though...
It's really "in" now to like The Beatles.
There are these random guys who just suddenly began
obsessing over The Beatles a while ago.

Do not ask me why.

There was a lot of junk back in the 60s - 70s when I was playing in bands too. Then like now, you had to seek out the good musicians. They weren't booked at what we called "Top 40" clubs and when my band voted to move from play-it-like-the-record stuff on the charts to groups like the Allman Bros, QMS, etc., the agent also started booking us in obscure roadhouses, college bars, etc.

Even back then (maybe more so since we didn't have satellite or anything like that), it was hard to find decent music on the air. I know some of us in town were elated when the first progressive station we could get went on the air. Other than that, the only way you ran across good stuff where I grew up was to periodically check out the discount bin at Woolworths.

Because non-Top 40 simply didn't sell, they'd dump all the good west coast albums, emerging southern rock groups and progressive east coast bands. The ultimate irony: I was paying sometimes $0.50 for an album like "Happy Trails" while most of the kids were paying $5.99 for crud.

This is bleeping metro Chicago. Huge population. You can easily find, among the millions here, kids who will play / listen to nothing but classical, to nothinng but (c)rap.

And everything in between. But go into any local GC or SA and within a couple hours someone will likely play "Smoke on the" or "Smells Like Teen...."

Most of my friends listen to new rock and some classic rock a couple of Clapton songs here a little Pink Floyd there, but mainly they listen to bands like Muse and that stuff I'm totally fine with that they respect my music and i respect theirs...

but all my friends that play music or my music buddys as i call them are into classic rock and blues, i guess thats why i play with them and not a metalhead :) (i did have a good friend that i jammed a little with, he was a metalhead tought me some great stuff sad he had to move :( )

I'm practically the biggest outcast possible in my area. Most of the people here listen to stuff like "We the Kings" or "Panic at the Disco" all the time. I've listened to these bands and they just seem like pop bands...well...like there's something not totally...I don't know how to say it...

Personally, I listen to Judas Priest, old Metallica, Ozzy, and a few others to name. Compared to a lot of people, I'm a BIG outcast. But yet, I'm proud to be so.

I can't speak for all the yoots around here, but I'm proud to say that I brought up my 23-year-old son well. He's into Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, and lots of other great stuff. 8)

My oldest son is a sophmore in High School and at least in his "crowd" a lot of classic rock gets listened to. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Who, and Hendrix.

Lots of them are into Nu Metal and Grindcore as well. I think alot of the "classic rock" resurgence has to be credited to the popularity of "Guitar Hero". Stupid game (IMO) but it's got loads of good rock music in it.

Most of the college age kids (mine included) seem to be into Indie sounds and bands.

They can't go wrong to listen to mid to late Beatles stuff, not so much the very beginning stuff. After Dylan had a heart to heart talk to John(about their songs did not say anything) they really started to produce some great lyrics and musical songs!! 8)

The rock songs aren't all that bad. When i listen to the radio there aren't many REALLY bad rock songs out there. Some of them are pointless. Fall Out Boy, Matchbox 20, and Maroon 5 even aren't all that bad but they are nothing compared to the Who or the Beatles. The proiblem is that almost everyone listens to hip hop and rap and if you ask me THAT's the crappy stuff

I'm 20 and listen to everything rock really. CD's in my collection range from Buddy Holly to Bring Me The Horizon... I'm currently listening to Escape The Fate so I guess you'd call me an emo or something like that but I'm not

Anyways most people my age and a little younger listen to rap (which I can't stand) to metal and there are those in between who compliment me on my Beatles, Who, Pink Floyd and Grateful Dead shirts and then I have other band shirts. So my area is pretty well rounded musically I guess
