Hi, I recently purchased a brand new VG series Strat. The Guitar is brilliant, and playability is superb, but one thing that is really irritating me is the on- board Roland effects. Although working very well. The battery life seems to be almost unworkable. The current drain on batteries is alarming to say the least. I'm using top quality rechargeables, but only last 30 minutes or so, before replacement. I've also tried ordinary high power types which last between 5 and 15 minutes when effects are activated.
The manual states up to 10 hours playing time.
Is there a tech problem with this particular guitar or is this common in all VG series guitars. Please reply if you have or haven't had this problem with yours. cheers, frustrated Rick.

Unquestionably you have a defective battery or, less likely, a problem that is draining it at an alarming rate. Is there a feature on the battery that drains the battery rapidly? Some batteries have that feature so they can be completely discharged periodically to maintain battery life.

I use a Variax that runs on batteries and my play time with them very closesly matches the manufacturers spec.

I think this is just a simple warranty issue for you.

Is there a mini-toggle which activates the circuit or perhaps, like the Clapton, it is activated when the cable is plugged in. You can't leave a Clapton, or a DG-20 plugged in when not in use.

Good day folks. I've had one of these for a while now.

First if you read the manual, you will see that Fender recommends 2600mAH to 2700mAH rechargeable batteries. I got a some 2500mAH Kodak batteries with a charger - it was just over $20 and I picked up a pack of 4 more batteries. I think I spent less than $35 for both of them at a Staples. They are labeled for use in a Digital Camera.

You must unplug the guitar when you are not going to use it, else the batteries are turned on - the blue lite indicates that the guitar is drawing battery power.

Mine are lasting about 8+ hours per charge - with 2 sets of batteries, I never run out of juice.

If you are using smaller capacity batteries, the guitar will suck them dry much faster. Leaving the guitar plugged in in to a cable will do the same.

Thanks for replying to my problem. But I am using rechargable battreries, these are brand new (4 - 1.5v digi camera types rated at 2700. Also I do unplug the jack when not using. Unfortunately there does seem to be a technical problem with the VG unit, causing a massive drain. regards Rick

Well, hopefully the issue can be resolved - I replied with the details about my batteries, since you hadn't provided the details about yours when you started the thread.

Take care,
