I recently installed the upgrade to Firefox 3.0.3 and it has an annoying feature. When I click the down-arrow on the URL list in the history toolbar I get a list of a lot of the sites I've visited, some over a year ago. I used to be able to clear the history using "clear private data". Sometimes I do a lot of searching, and the URLs build up. What I like to do is clear it periodically so the dropdown only shows the sites I usually go to. It's a kind of shortcut for me.

Can you tell me how to clear this data?

I'm using that browser right now.

Click "tools" on the top bar
Then click "clear private data"
Now it will show you a dialog menu, and make sure "browsing history" is checked.

Now click the "Clear Private Data Now" Button and it should clear everything you had checked on the menu.

This browser will also show some of your bookmarks on the drop down menu. Those can't be cleared, unless you clear the bookmarks.

I've never had any problems with clearing any browsing history on my browser.

...If you want, you can make Firefox clear everything every time you're finished using it.

Tools > Options > Got to the privacy tab > Then chose "Clear private data every time I close Firefox" (or something similar to that).
To change what it clears click on settings, and tick the boxes you want.

You can also un-tick the box that says "ask before clearing private data", so that when you close Firefox, it does everything for you.

Click on "tools", then "options" then "privacy" You can make adjustments there on your browser history, etc.

It works that way as well. Now he has two ways to do it.

Those things worked with previous versions of Firefox, but not with 3.0.3

I don't know what you're doing wrong, but it works for me. And I clean out my history all the time.

Maybe I need to upgrade again, because the problem persists after carefully trying the advice given in this thread. It's not a major thing, it's just a convenience really. The problem occurs with both my desktop PC and my laptop.
