Post subject: finger peeling away from nail

i have been playing guitar for about 5 years now and i have never encountered this problem. the other day after about 3 hours of playing my finger started hurting and i noticed that my fingernail was peeling away from my finger at the tip. what should i do?

my nails are as short as possible because i dont want to scratch the fretboard

I can't play with long nails at all. I keep them as far back as I can.

You may have torn the nail out of its bed. I'd have it looked at by a dermatologist just to make sure that there is no underlying bacterial or fungal involvement. You're likely going to have to give it a rest until healed.
