+1 Great minds think alike.

I might add Steven Tyler and Paul Rodgers too.

Oh yeah, they both have earned a spot. I didn't put em up there since they were mentioned in other posts. I think Paul Rodgers is probably the best rock vocalist ever.

cryingstrat, I'm a little surprised there is no mention of Jon Anderson. His voice, as much as Howe's guitar and Wakeman's keys, defined the Yes sound. Just one of the most beautiful voices in rock music.

You know, I was going to put him up there. I just didn't think anyone would agree or even know who he was. I think he's got the voice of an angel.

Not many females mentioned...

How about Bonnie Bramlett, Tori Amos, Alison Krauss, Jackie DeShannon,
Susanna Hoffs, Chrissie Hynde, Annie Lennox, Stevie Nicks, Natalie Merchant, Laura Nyro, Joan Osborne, Grace Slick, Pink, Tina Turner, Lucinda Williams and those girls in The Veronicas and Donnas.

Whether you want to base it on performance, range, or charisma, these are my faves.

Oh, and Jim Morrison. That's a given.

GT I'm with ya on AC/DC being less after Bon's passing. He brought a great sense of fun to the band with his lyrics. You can tell that they tried to keep the same spirit going but it just hasn't been the same.

Regarless of how we may feel as guitarists, bass player, and drummers the singer is how the band is identified. Very few have continued to be highly successful after the recognized frontman departs.
