My Tele is sitting in her stand next to me, I'm sure she's blushing  I gave her the works today, with the Fender care system. Right down to the chrome, I need to wear shades to play her

I always wanted a Starfire III. Around 1967, I was jamming with a couple of kids and the guitar player had just gotten a Starfire III and a Twin Reverb for Christmas. Needless to say, the sound was sweet and he'd played a few years and was pretty good on it.

They were well beyond my financial reach even though they were relatively inexpensive for the quality and playability. Plus, I'd just had the good luck to get something I could afford, a used Mustang from my uncle for $100.

The irony is that now they're anything but inexpensive! I've seen them at upwards of $2,800 if they're all original in mint condition. I'll stick with my Mustang. Yep, I still have it and I think I've gotten my $100 out of that deal 20,000 times over.

Any guitar that has all of the following:

Creates perfect and versatile tones ranging from bright and clean to hard and mean (country to metal). Intonates perfectly with low action, no fret buzz, no dead spots. Tunes perfectly and stays in tune even with hard and long playing. Has endless sustain. Has a floating vibrato bridge that bends chords in perfect tuning while leaving strings in tune but doesn't require string ball cutting, double ball strings, nor nut locks while being easy to intonate and adjust string heights. A bridge that allows fast and easy down and up tuning with a flick rather than on each individual sting tuner. Locking tuners that cut sting ends with a single turning key and that are sturdy and reliable while eliminating string slippage. A long-wear and versatile nut. Locking strap pegs. Doesn't ever require adjustments to a neck truss rod. A smooth, perfect and fast-n-easy playing slim but sturdy neck. A smooth, perfect, and fast playing fretboard with nice tone and that doesn't wear too easily. Beautiful fret inlays. Rather than neck side-dot markers, has fret number markers. Allows fast and easy string changes. Allows string gauge changes without a need for a new setup. Is light weight with comfy body and arm contours. Has active and non-active pickup options. Has coil splitting for true single coil and humbucker tones. Pickups only in the neck and bridge positions. A bridge with a fast-removing cover to be used to rest the palm for palm muting. Phase switches. A built in acoustic simulator (or piezo) with true acoustic ring and tone. Built in pre-amp to send a lead from soaring to searing. Separate volume and tone controls for each pickup. Tone controls with no-load (Delta) settings. All high quality woods, parts, pots, electronics, wiring, and craftsmanship. Doesn't look too geeky (I personally prefer a small head, medium sized body with a Tele shape, cool paint job, nice finish). And not priced at a freaking king's ransom.

I don't think I'm asking too much, am I?

My Melody Maker and Strat fulfill the dream-guitar thing- but I could use some sort of equalization pedal to play the Melody Maker at high gain (and still sound 400% overdriven?).

Well on second thought...a Rhoads-V shaped guitar with a Strat neck, 3 Strat pups, and a hardtail bridge would be really awesome.

Those Bozeman, MT built Gibson Acoustics are totally excellent- a worthy dream guitar by any measure... I too, have played mostly acoustic...

But, there's really no reason you can't play both. I am into 'electics' now and that's why I chose a Fender- Here are some of my dream guitars and the first one is the one I get to pick-up on November 1:

1. Fender American Standard Stratocaster in Sienna Sunburst/Maple... SSS
2. Taylor 814 CE Electic Acoustic, AAASitka w/ Rosewood sides and back. Expression system.
3. PRS SC 245 in McCarty Sunburst. 24.5" scale for the 'hoopy' Carlos sounds with pup covers, Ten top and vintage tuners.

So far, my dream guitar is my new Eric Clapton Signature Strat. This axe does it all.

I tried the BLACKIE strat a couple of weeks ago. It's the nicest sounding strat I've played. It really feels good in your hand's. I'm a blues player and that guitar really had a nice Clapton sound. I tried it through a Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb. It's a nice looking strat too.... :D
