I've been playing since March. Love it. Play every day. Now that I've learned some basics and some songs and I'm on a good path, I'm starting to work on scales daily.

The problem is that I'm not sure of what the right mind set should be for this study. What's the best way of studying scales, and how do I get the most out of it? Traininig my hands and ears is an obvious benefit, but I'm not sure how I transfer the practice into making music.

As always, thanks for the help.

Take some lessons. You learn proper technique and avoid shortcuts and bad habit's that will be roadblocks you'll have to unlearn later.
