I voted Brand New. I would prefer my guitars grow old with me so that every scratch, nick and rub is something that I can remember and enjoy.

By the way, I just got 2 Brand New guitars: A Fender Deluxe Telecaster and a Deluxe Stratocaster, both in Sunburst Maple. :D

To me vintage is all about vibe. Old guitars don't really sound that much better, or better at all, for the money. You're paying for the image. Fender is making the highest quality, most toneful guitars in their history right now.

$1200 Am. Deluxe or $20,000 vintage strat? If your buying tone and playability.....get the Deluxe.

New for the most part. "Vintage" like "preowned" is a nice way of saying used. I buy them to play them not stick 'em behind glass and look at them. So buying a true "vintage" instrument would not be particularly cost effective. My 1974 Strat is getting to be considered "vintage" in some circles. I still play her, but I wouldn't go out an pay big bucks for it now just because it's old.
