I thought I saw a post topic already asking if you had named your guitar. I couldn't find that thread again so I thought I'd post this.
I name all my cars, but the thought of naming my guitar never occured to me. I thought about it, then it came to me as I was watching a special about the Porsche James Dean drove. On the back he had the name "Little Bastard" and I thought that would be a perfect name for my Strat. I'm very much a beginning player and that guitar cries out to me like a Little Bastard to keep practicing to get better.
Love and Peace to all,
Mike W.
F.U. forever!

Hi, Mike. For what's it's worth, here's the thread you're talking about:

http://www.fender.com/community/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9225

By the way, it took me a second to figure out that F.U. stood for Fender University. It reminds me of the t-shirts for the Freie Universität Berlin that the GIs used to wear in Germany: FU Berlin

Once again--I call my Mustang--My Mustang, my Les Paul-My Les Paul, my 12 string--my 12 string, and since I bought it since the last time I answered one of these--my new guitar--I call--My New Guitar--to be followed by calling it My Archtop.

i don't have names for my guitars, my 62 white SG is my SG but when i play her i think way back in time from whom i got her, my long lost friend Dan, WHEN I PLAY my black PRS I think of my bass player JR who died suddenly at age 30 something 6 yr. ago, because he said that he liked that guitar (miss him lots) when i play my 72 reissue thine line i think of my current girl friend be cause they're both blond and she was with me when i bought her, i guess what i'm saying is no names just memmories, i have like 14 guitars.

I name pretty much all my guitars, and I have mentioned the names in other "Guitar Name/Naming" threads in the past...

I named 'em by the serial number. For example my first strat, MZ6193282 so I named it 619-3282

I too named all my basses. They are my pets!

fretless Ripper = Bessie
Fender P = Penelope or PennyP
Ric = Ricky (imaginative, huh?)
Jackson V = Jackson ( '' '' )

Yup I name mine too. I don't think you can name a new guitar until you've played it awhile. You know, gotten a feel for it and it's specific personality quirks.

I haven't named any of them, but I'm not opposed to it.

I've named the electrics, but not the acoustics.

As far as them "already having names," while true enough that can get inefficient when you have more than one guitar of the same general type. For example, I have 3 Telecasters. I could call one of them by it's "given" name, but "Tex-Mex Telecaster Special" doesn't exactly roll trippingly off the tongue now, does it? "Brownie" is a lot better, from my vantage.

Anyhow, here are the guitars and basses and their names:

Sonia '60 Duo-Sonic
Brownie Tex-Mex Tele Special
Blondie '52 RI Telecaster
Seven Squier MIJ P-Bass
Ruby DeArmond Jet Star
Blue Ovation Breadwinner
Chrissie Hamer USA Special
Cherie Les Paul Studio DC
Nell Fender Standard Jazz Bass
Joan Gretsch Electromatic Special Jet
Violet “parts” Telecaster w/Seymour Duncan mini-hum in neck
Raquel Fernandes Ravelle
Valerie Agile P-90 Valkyrie II
Theresa 1980 Peavey T-60
Cassie Les Paul Classic
Rickie Rickenbacker 620
Candy Peavey USA Predator Strat
Stormy Schecter Tempest Special
Corrine Brownsville Choirboy
Rose Daisy Rock Retro-H
Pearl Squier P-90 Strat
Goldie Epiphone Custom Shop Limited Edition WildKat

The names are all linked to the guitar's appearance or model name in some way. My kids have a lot of fun with the guitars having names, as do I.

The names for mine are rather unimaginative on my part: Strat and Variax.
