Do you remember the guitar ads, I think by Taylor, that showed people on vacation without their guitars, hoping for the day when they got to return and play again?

Well, there's a lot of truth in those ads. I had to travel for a week and couldn't play guitar. I really missed my guitar.

I know that feeling! A vacation is a great thing, but after a while without your guitar it's like something is missing! Just not the same without it... I went to the beach last year I think with my some family and one of my cousins brought his strat, so that made it all good, especially considering I was on vacation without it the week before too.

Know the feeling well. I spend a lot of time in the far east on business and I'm always ready to get back and plug in.

Off there in 2 weeks and it doesnt look like my DG strat going to arrive before I go so that will be very frustrating if its delivered and I'm not there.

Mind if my forum t shirt gets here I will be able to get some interesting pics

I think those ads are a play on a Norman Rockwell painting as there is an painting he did which shows a family looking eager to go on vacation in one half, then in the second half, it shows the same family looking eager to return home from the vacation.

Being without a guitar makes business travel suck even more.

I've learned -- I always have a guitar with me if I'm away more than just one night. Sometimes, it's an acoustic but if I'm going to be away longer, I might drag along my old Champ 12 and an electic (my Tele being the most frequent choice).

You find yourself playing more than you might think during those down times that are inevitable on any trip. But my favorite time was one time when my GF and I were spending three days in wine country here in SoCal.

In our mid 50s, "going out" after a day of running around isn't usually on the agenda. It was a warm night, so we were just sitting outside the motel room after dinner ... bottle of wine, my guitar ... built in entertainment. Not long after, another couple asked if they could join as he too had his axe with him. Add another couple, more wine and a couple game enough to sing along and it makes for a memorable evening.

Must be no one objected because we were out there (granted, trying to be reasonably mellow) until close to 11 PM.

Now if only one of us had thought to bring the hat along with the guitar ... :)

I try to bring along an old beat up no-name knockoff I've had since the 70's.
No amp but it lets me practice when I feel like it

ZZDOC: The Fender ad was a bit over-the-top knowing the guitar got wet slung over the back of a surfer about to 'hang ten'. It made me wonder if they thought of (but of course, didn't do it) an ad showing the guitar stuck on the back of a guy arched up & facing down in bed, making love to his wife. I realize that's even MORE over-the-top, BUT that idea points out how ridiculous the surfer one was. Actually, when you think about it, the surfer ad was an insult to our intelligence, simply because it was just as DUMB as my 'making love' ad idea would be. (Sorry if I offended any body's sensibilities.)

[quote="Guitarman1117"]: Those Jazzmasters and Jaguars were set in a variety of interesting and creative situations, none of which were really taken seriously. However, the idea got across, and despite some interesting twists and turns, here we are, forty years later, looking back at them.
Where your creative thinking turns, I expect that many such a scenario was acted out in truth, with a guitar waiting patiently, standing in a corner, against a bedpost, chair, or napping under that very bed.
I, for one, can speak to it.
