Hello....ello...ello....ello....ello....

My Analog delay jut got delivered to the office! I can't wait to get it home and try it out!

I've only ever used digital delay, and hope I can use both in vintage/modern echo madness harmony!

It's the Behringer one...any one have any experience with it??
I think it's supposed to be a copy if the discontinued Boss DM3....
I understand it has the same bucket brigade circuitry and a modern version of the MN3205 chip
Shame it's not the shocking pink colour!

The Behringer costs around the same as a packet of peanuts, so I'm not expecting miracles, but a bit of slap-back to self oscilation madness would make my day!

Congrats ian! Like Snowy72, I myself have a box (and a stage-board) full of pedals, and delays are always a fun paint brush to have. They absolutely add to my creative electricity.

You're right Gratz, I've been messing around all afternoon with a few of mine. Perhaps at the weekend, I might find room for a new one

Evening all.

Can you suggest a distortion effect for me - theres to damn many to choose from. If it helps the only other effect I have is MXR carbon copy delay and i do like analogue.

I've been thro my fair share of digital amps and never again !!

Some advice on best layouts to daisy chain effects would be appreciated also.

Cheers

Hey there jaiyenyen. I'm sure almost everyone would agree with me in saying "Distortion" is an effect that is a matter of personal preference. What I may find to be an incredible sounding Distortion, someone else may find rubbish.

I once modified a Boss DS1 distortion which sounded superb to me - but to my drummer, it sounded "like balls"!

I've tried all the standards: Boss - Line 6 - Jekyll & Hyde - Ibanez - Big Muff etc - plus a few home-made boxes. But nowadays I rely solely on my Hughes & Kettner TriAmp for distortion and my DOD 250.

Good luck on your quest.

I'm never too keen on distortion - a bit too ROCK! for me! I prefer a nice transparent overdrive like the DOD 250.

Distortion pedals are a real divider of opinion - I can't stand the universally adored Boss DS1. I do like the very cheap FAB distortion though....

I've always followed the rule that distortions go nearest the guitar in your chain and modulations etc go nearest the amp.
(Imagine if you play through a chorus going into a fuzz - you will fuzz up your chorus!! - If you put your Fuzz sound into a chorus you're not wrecking your nice modulation!)

I always love having a tremelo just before my amp....for sensual warbling or stuttering 60's bond movie fun!
If you're not sure about one, have a look down the back of the sofa and I'm sure you'll scratch together enough for the Danelectro Tuna Melt - a fantastic bargain trem!

It does exactly what it says on the tin (except melt tuna!)

Crikey! You must have been writing this the same time as me! and we both said the same thing! Great ears think alike!!!!!!

By the way, I just tried out the Behringer analog delay - it's wicked!
I teamed it up with my Marshall Echohead into the Blues Junior and blew a side parting in my hair!

Another question sorry, what is the difference between overdrive and distrtion. Would be great if you could mention a band name i could link with the effect.

Overdrive is decaffeinated Distortion; just a little bit of boost or fuzz, whereas Distortion is Marty McFly standing in front of a 6 Foot speaker getting ready to pound out an open E power chord.

What are your favorite bands? Maybe that would be more helpful at pinpointing your taste.

David Gilmours tone is immense, but I like to play a bit of everything.

To limit it Led Zep, Hendrix from the past, Black Stone Cherry and have you heard Walter Trouts newest CD its amazing

Thanks for all the help guys

A lot of people will tell you different answers here! To me distortion is maximum compression, fuzzy, metal type sound - think Nirvana/smashing pumkins/deep purple in their loud bits.

Overdrive is more natural sounding, there is distortion, but not so much compression - meaning that you can play gently or hard, and the sound will respond accordingly. (with distortion the volume of the sound coming from the amp is more constant, due to the added compression)
Remember the Levi's ad where they guy is playing his guitar on top of the ice cream van? that's what I'd call a nice dirty overdrive sound!

I use my overdrive not to acheieve a distorted sound but to push my amp to the sweet spot where the harmonics are richer, the sound has more 'bite' and things start to chime a bit more....

I suggest you log onto to YouTube and type in some effects - chorus, delay, tremelo, flanger, phaser, overdrive, distortion, compression, etc and see what you find.

I always see if I can hear a pedal on Youtube before I go and try it (or just but it if the price is right!) For example.....
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8dIXnLZwBg

I also check out the reviews on Harmony Central, for example...
http://reviews.harmony-central.com/revi ... /DM-2/10/1

But be warned - some of the reviews on here are written by some proper idiots!! I'm always amazed by people who write reviews on there after trying something out in a shop for 5 minutes!

Hope this helps and sorry if I'm teaching granma to suck eggs at any point!
