My father has announced to me, for my birthday, he is willing to spend as much as $1000 for a new amplifier. Going to the "Dexter Music Center" (AKA: heaven), I looked at several tube and solid state amplifiers. My top choices include...

VOX - AD50VT
Marshall - (I think its something from the AVT Series, a tube amp..)
Peavy - Classic 50
Marshall MG250DFX
Peavy - Classic 30

Those are just my top choices, like I said....and...I can't decide...can ya'll give me some guidance maybe on that? Maybe some personal opinions? Personal experiences? Maybe recommend a bigger "bang-for-the-buck?" Aye, I'm just so giddy about it...I mean, a new amp! :D :D :D

The Blues DeVille Reissue, a reinterpretation of the classic Bassman amp, produces 60W into 4-10" Eminence alnico-magnet speakers with an all-tube preamp and power amp.

Wow a grand...you can't go wrong with a Fender Twin Reverb, although if you live with your Dad he may regret buying you a 100 watt amp.

Several years ago, 'bought a used '01 Cyber-Twin for $600. It has been a joy ever since.

No regrets. Plus that you can really play with some tres cool guitar / amp combinations.

Personal faves are '59 Bassman, '65 Deluxe Reverb, Hang 10 (surf), 53 Deluxe, Vibro King settings. It really is an amazing amp.

I agree with the Vibro King (Pete Townsend uses them) and the one I'm looking at is the 57 Twin Tweed RI that Clapton uses several of them stacked.(no telling what else $$$$) They both are rather exspensive! Good luck as you can get a nice amp for $1,000.00

Do you need something with that many watts? A 1000 will give you a lot of amps to pick from for sure I saw a amp the other day that was 20watts that was amazing it was a Ampeg Jet-20 guitar amp all tube 2-6V6 and 3-12AX7's it was like something from the 60's sounded great for surf or jazz :D Also you could get a Vox AC15CC1 for that money. :D

Do yourself a favour and stay away from the marshall Avt and Mg's. Their both solid state and not reliable enough for gigs. Marshalls current QC leaves a lot to be desired. Ive a jcm800 still under warranty, just back from repair and its still got the same problem. I also have a 83 jcm800 thats fine. Neither sound as good as my £200 fender vibrochamp xd though  . The champs metal sounds are lacking  but the cleans are divine. :D

I'm a seasoned marshall fan, at the moment though i'd say get the peavey classic 30. Its a crackin amp. Loud enough for most bar / theatre stages and small enough for home use. 30watts valve is more than loud enough, valve amps have a natural compression that keeps the volume constant, making them sound louder than solidstate's. My champs only 5 watts, it never goes past 4. Both my marshalls are 100 watts and usualy sit at 2. Just goes to show wattage numbers dont mean a fat lot when your playing at home.

You didn't say what type of music you play. Fender makes several tube amps in that price range. I'm partial to Fender because I like the clean and silghtly overdriven tones. If you play alot of distortion you may want a Marshall. I would stay away from the MG series Marshalls. They are not the same as the ones built in the U.K. The Peavey amps you mentioned are very good also.
