Preah it Brother. You gotta find your own tone. Who want's to sound like everyone else. Based on your recommendation I'm going to find one of those Danelectro pedals to try out.

Haha! It's a bit of a wobbly recomendation! It's one of those 'love it or hate it' pedals - but it costs about the same as a packet of peanuts, and the build quality is very good, so you can afford to experiment a bit.

It's a silly pedal! Check out the reviews on Harmony Central.....

You should hear it through a Fender Super, though it sounds awesome through any Fender tube combo :!:

What? The Danelctro FAB?

Barber Electronics Direct Drive.

Thanx for your input. I have been running my strat and a tube amp, nothing else, for a while and I wanted to get an od pedal for a gain boost. I considered many of your suggestions and tried some of them as well. I tried a TS-9 & russian Big Muff Pie. They both lacked true bypass so I decided against them. I ended up with the MXR/Custom Audio Electronics Boost/Overdrive pedal. It's great, a clean boost & OD in one with true bypass.

I tried a few overdrives and distortion pedals this weekend, such as the Duncan "twin tube", Boss SD-1, etc. and ended up buying a Tube Screamer 808 model.

My style is mostly semi-mellow jazz, traditional blues, etc. but I wanted to try something a bit more modern. By that, I more mean someone like Bonamassa who often to my ear has a fairly classic sound.

After trying maybe 10 pedals (don't remember every single one), I found that the 808 most matched the school sound I was looking for. It seems reasonably versatile and didn't sound like it was coloring my sound all that much.

baaahaa, baahaaaa

that's funny.

(are you my daaahdy?)

I wanted the tones I grew up listening to and loving. And I gotta tell you, I found it and am quite content. Ended up going with a Robert Keeley modified TS-808, with his More/Less and true bypass mods. If something ever hapens to it, I'll get another. I can mix all the junk up listed below and come up with my own tones, as well.
----------------------
Taylor 310
Gibson Les Paul Studio
Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster
Gretsch G6122-1962 Country Classic
Rickenbacker 360

Peterson StroboStomp2 Pedal Tuner
Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Octavio/Fuzz
Booty-Oue Retro-Comp v2.3
VOX V848 Clyde McCoy Wah
Ibanez TS-808, Keely Mod'd w/True Bypass
MXR Carbon Copy Analog Delay
DigiTech JamMan Looper Pedal
Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2 Plus
Lehle Little Dual Amp Switcher
Whirlwind Selector A/B Box
Many Monsters

Fender Blues Jr. NOS
Fender Deluxe Reverb ('65 VR)
Run in parallel and selectable through the Lehle

---Sons---
Baby Taylor
Epiphone G-400
Gretsch G5120, all upgraded electrical, including TV Jones Classics
Marshall GV-2 Gov'nor
DigiTech Grunge Pedal
Roland Cube 30X

Just picked up one of those Danelectros. Wanted a cheap reverb for the Pro Jr. I just bought for a lunch box locker stuffer to take with me to work.

It'll do, but is pretty much what I expected for a $30 pedal.

But here are the ones I go through...

The YELLOW one is a '70s DOD Preamp/Overdrive

I have that exact same yellow DOD, haven't used it in ages. Wish it had a status light. Need to get out and play with it again.

Of late I've been using a Bad Monkey. Also have a modded TS-5 Tube Screamer but frankly it's a little tame for my purposes. I prefer the Bad Monkey since it has seprarate bass and treble controls. I have a DOD Supra Distortion for more oomph but it seems like everyone hates those. Only downside to the Supra is that I always leave it bassed-out or it gets too tinny.
