maple or rosewood? if you have a rosewood, just use lemon oil that you'd use to clean wood around the house, as for maple i'm not as sure

spit and a clean rag. if that don't work then naptha (lighter fluid) and a clean rag. If that does not work then a use a razor blade. If that does not work then you got real problems.

For my rosewood fretboards I use Gibson's Fretboard Conditioner. That and a lil elbow grease usually does the trick. Wiping down after each use goes a long way too. Once that finger gunk gets into the grain it's hard to clean.

I use a drop of lemon oil and a soft cloth.

on Rosewood I use boiled linseed oil. You can get a big can of it at Lowes or small ones at an art supply store. Works wonders on the wood.
